“Great staff, hotel so-so”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2010

Stayed for 3 nights in a twin room paid cost 11E pppn.

The price includes breakfast which really is unheard of at that price. However, dont get too excited, it's basically just jam butter and bread with coffee (oh yeah, if you dont like your coffee black, bring some milk/creamer!)

The staff were very friendly - no complaints there.

The location is excellent, centrally located for all most tourist attractions, nearest metro is akropoli, not too far at all, about a five minute walk.

The bad points are: No hot water in the room. The ceiling fan wouldnt work independently from the ceiling light. It is noisy in rooms 11 and 12 which are ground floor front facing rooms. Bring ear plugs. We are savvy so we had them :), The window was jammed shut so no access to daylight, though this wasnt a problem as we were at ground level and didnt want people off the street looking in.

There was a vending machine, with beer priced very competitively at 1.20E for a 330ml can, so I was happy with that :)

Hotel has a tiled outdoor area, nice place to spend 30 mins with a souvlaki and a beer after a hard day slogging around athens.

room 11 and 12 had back to back wardrobes, with only a very thin division (I dont know if this is the same layout throughout the hotel) so if some one in the adjoining room was noisy putting clothes away, you hear this very clearly!

The beds were a bit old and soft, but definitely no bedbugs when i stayed. Bathrooms were ok, kept clean, no shower curtain though so the whole floor gets wet.

All in all, you generally get what you pay for and at 11e per night, what I got was fair enough I suppose.

“THIS PLACE HAS BEDBUGS.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2010

I read in another person's review that this place has bedbugs. I was skeptical but IT IS TRUE. Both my boyfriend and I have the characteristic tracks of little red bumps in a single line. They get under your skin and stay there. THEY CAN HITCH A RIDE HOME WITH YOU AND INFEST YOUR HOUSE. There is no excuse for that, no matter how cheap the place. Absolutely revolting. DO NOT STAY HERE.

“hostel-like accommodation in the heart of athens”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2010

the hotel is more like a youth hostel.Very close to metro station, literally takes 5-7 minutes to walk there.close to tourist shops, city center and attractions.Clean, safe, friendly staff.Mostly for young backpackers.Great free breakfast.Bathrooms are small and messy to use.

“Friendly staff. Room had bedbugs”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2010

The hotel in located in the Plaka area which is very convenient to restaurants, shops and about a 10 minute walk to subway. the staff on all shifts were friendy and they offer some danish and apples for breakfast. in a pleasant enclosed pation area. The stark 4 bunk room we stayed in had sheets, pillows and wool blankets and a window opening to an alley. the room was crowded with the four of us and our backpacks and suitcases. On the second day, 2 of us discovered we had been bitten by bed bugs. the staff was apologetic and offered a salve, but no discount on the room. Staff were surprised and said they would close the room. we stayed thier on May 19 and 20, 2010.
If the room had been bug free, all ratings would have increased.

“Would not stay there again”

My partner and me spent three nights in Hotel Dioskouros during our trip in Athens. This is our opinion:

The situation of the hotel is a big plus. It´s located in Plaka, und after only a few minutes walk you find yourself in a nice area full of bars, tavernas and restaurants. The Temple of zeus is just on the other side of the road, and central Syntagma Square is just a few minutes (probably 8 Minutes) away.

Our room (private) was ok,nothing special, but we spent the whole day outside anyway. The room was clean, and it had a wash-bowl and a mirror plus soap. Only the matress seemed to be very old and was quite uncomfortable to sleep on. The bathroom facilities were ok,they were clean and simple.

The breakfast was - to be honest - A JOKE. Only white bread, orange jam and cheese.Oh,and coffee. We thought they were kidding us,because on the homepage you will find this regarding the breakfast:

Fresh Bread

- Butter/Jam/Honey

- Ham &Cheese

- Cake

- Fresh Fruit

- Tea

- Coffee (Filter and instant)

- Ice Tea

- Milk

Butter,Honey,Cake, Tea, Ice Tea....WHERE WAS IT???

Another fact we didn´t like about the hotel is that in the late evening, sometimes after midnight, people were talking and joking and taking showers just in front of our room (where the bathrooms were) and below our window. In our opinion, the management or somebody else who is responsible, has to take care that people don´t wake up in the middle of the night because of the noises of other people!Even in Sydney´s Party suburb King´s Cross I found myself in a much more quiet hostel!!

All in all,I wouldn´t recommened it to other travellers.Hotel Dioskouros calls itself "Hotel",but it´s much more a quite bad hostel. No,I don´t think that I would stay there again.
