Firstly, the lady on reception when I arrived was very helpful, polite and spoke good english and the initial impression of reception was pleasant and the rooms were OK.
However on closer inspection, the coffee table in our room was dirty, the bathroom ceiling needed painting, the lighting was poor, the TV was old & the Pay TV didnt work (which wasnt great, as the English channels were extremely limited), tea/coffee supplies in the room were minimal, the chairs in the restaurant/foyer were shabby and very dirty, the breakfast choice wasnt the best (the eggs & bacon were stone cold and the croissants/pastries were actually stale).
We got very little sleep due to excessive noise outside, which I appreciate cant be helped, but better soundproofing/double glazing should be standard in such a built up area. There was numerous loud bangs/crashes going on all night, in addition to the poor soundproofing within the hotel, meant you could hear conversations going on in various rooms, the boilers/hot water system were extremely loud and rickety (you could hear everybody running the tap or having a bath/shower).
On the plus side, the staff were polite and friendly, the location in respect of the metro, was convenient and we felt safe walking around the vicinity. The area was OK, but you would need to travel elsewhere for shopping/meals/sightseeing etc. The shower was fantastic and the beds/pillows were very comfy. The majority of the hotel looked clean and tidy.
If some money was spent, it could be OK, but definitely not a 5 star hotel by any means.
