“Great shower, free wifi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

The staff was incredibly helpful, answering all of our questions when we needed help. The hotel is located on an outdoor shopping street and surrounded by high end stores and restaurants. If you want about 5-8 minutes, though, you reach the more touristy area around the Acropolis and can find cheaper eats and souvenirs. Along the main road there were many chocolate shops which had our mouths watering as we walked. The metro is only a 5 minute walk away and as long as nothing is going on in Syntagma Square, it is easy to get to. There is free internet in the rooms. The shower was amazing with good hot water and great water pressure and a full tub and shower.

The only reason not to stay here is if you are worried about protests in Syntagma Square. Most protests are not violent and to leave we actually ended up walking through one without any problems. However, be aware that strikes happen and protests happen, and you will be close to it all.

Also, if the view is extremely important to you, note that our balcony view was just of the back of a building. But we did not stay here for the view.

“Safe and handy location”

We stayed with our family of four (2 adults and 2 teenagers) in 2 bedroom inter-connecting rooms. (429 & 430). Although the rooms were not very big, we were nevertheless comfortable.
The daily breakfasts were delicious and plentiful. The hotel itself is in a very very safe location
just off Ermou street with numerous tavernas, supermarkets. pharmacies, fashion shops etc
nearby. (even Mcdonald's !) There was plenty of police presence and this made it very safe indeed.
We walked to Syntagma square, Plaka and Monastiraki several times and the "Happy Train" just on top of Ermou St. took us on wonderful sightseeing rides around Athens. This was a very cheap, (6 euros for adults), convenient and handy way of seeing all the sights. You can hop on and off the train to visit the Acropolis, the museum, plaka shopping district etc. it comes around approx. every 45 minutes and you have about 5 hours to complete the whole journey. The Monastiraki train station is within walking distance where we caught the train to Piraeus Port where all the boats leave from for the Greek Islands ) The hotel staff were really very nice and helpful to us and nothing was too much trouble.
Be aware though, there are no shops open on Sundays and on Saturday nights the blasting music from the disco nearby is a bit too much, but this is not something the hotel can do anything about. All in all wonderful and safe location and plenty to do around.

“Just gross.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

Convenient location, but the hotel is overpriced for the quality. I booked a 'deal' directly on the hotel website: 10% off for an outside room with balcony. I entered my room on the 6th floor and pulled the curtain to find that it was an interior room. I explained to the woman at the front desk what type of reservation I had actually made. After much searching, she gave me another room on the 2nd floor. I was disgusted to exit the elevator on this floor and walk and roll my luggage down the loose and soaking wet carpet! And the room was just as bad....I guess it was technically an exterior room, but it was only feet away from the buildings across the alley and so close you couldn't open the curtains anyway. And the carpet in the room was just flat out disgusting. I was really afraid to touch anything at all in the room and was quite thankful I would be checking out early the next morning. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

“Not what we expected”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

We stayed at the Athens Cypria Hotel on our last night in Athens, after returning from Napflio. While the lobby is quite updated and nice, the hotel room was quite dingy. I rarely complain about hotels (this may be the first time), but there were visible dirty hand prints on the walls near the bed and an overall musty smell to the entire place. Because the room was not well lit, and had limited natural light, it was difficult to see much more. On the positive side, the hotel is in a good area, just off the pedestrian shopping area with a number of good cafes and restaurants nearby. They provided a complimentary basket of fruit in our room and also gave us coupons for free drinks at their cafe. The hotel itself is a larger hotel than we normally occupy in Europe and didn't have much personality. We will choose another location when returning to Athens.
