We stayed in Athens for 3 days in June 2011 before heading to the islands and then again for one night upon our return before leaving Greece. This is a fantastic location - near tons of great shopping, the Monistriki train station (one block away) and many, many restaurants. There was unrest when we were there so you have to be careful of your personal belongings but we were 2 senior women and were comfortable venturing out at night. The view from the rooftop bar was spectacular. The breakfast in the morning was nice and the best part is that you can leave the luggage there that you don't want to take to the islands and pick it up when you come back. The rooms are small but clean and sufficient. Staff was friendly and helped us take a city bus tour which was a good bang for your buck - very informative. The Acropolis Museum is a MUST!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Attalos Hotel. Its location is unbeatable; within walking distance of the train station and several tourist sites. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and quiet. And the rooftop bar was amazing! It was great to go there after a long day on our feet and relax with a beer while staring at the most amazing view of the Acropolis.

I guess my only complaint would be that our bathroom needed a little restoration. Not a big deal though. Great overall value. I would definitely stay there again.

I stayed here 3 + 3 nights and would do so again if I were to visit Athens.

The hotel is walking distance from Monastiraki station, Syntagma Square and Omonia Square. Also near the various tourist attractions like the Acropolis, Hadrain’s Arch, Agora, etc. and Ermou Street where you can shop. So it is ideally located.

The hotel staff gave me directions even before I visited. When I got there, they told me a friend had left a package for me and handed it over and they were also kind enough to keep a packet for a friend who picked it up later. In fact, I had left my own bag with them when I left Athens to see the rest of Greece and handed it when I returned to Athens and checked in a week later. They helped me hire a taxi for the airport on my last day and also gave me directions to places I asked for during my stay there.

Well, the rooms. I liked the one I got the first time I checked in better than the one I got the second time round though the first time, the bathroom had a shower cubicle and the second time, it was a bathtub (but not in as good a condition as the first one and the toilet was not spotless though it was cleaned everyday). Beds were comfortable; I didn’t find them hard like rock as I read in some of the reviews. Also, I did not see staff smoking in the hotel as some reviews read. However, the second time I checked in, I had to air the room out (there was only one other room available which I did not prefer, given the choice) since there was some smell of cigarette smoke and yes, on one morning, I did smell cigarette smoke coming in from outside of the room. But, to be fair, I did not see the staff smoking. It could just as well have been a guest.

And I was lucky to have a view of the Acropolis from my balcony both the times I stayed here.
Breakfast was standard – toast, croissants, olives, eggs, juice, milk, muffins, cheese... but hearty. I missed it the first day since I left at 6:15 a.m. and I was told breakfast opened at 7:00 a.m. but the next day I found that people had their breakfast even at 6:00 a.m.

It’s not a five star hotel but it’s good and clean with helpful staff and I will stay here again.

While looking for a hotel for a short break in Athens the Attalos always got good reviews - decided to book because of this and I was not disappointed. It is within walking distance of the metro and train stations (minutes away), all the major sites, market, shopping and restaurants are all closeby. However the greatest advantage the Attalos has is the staff, all were extremely helpful and always greeted you with a smile. Nothing is too much for them. The roof bar is closed in winter, but they have a winter bar downstairs, however the roof is open and you can appreciate the wonderful view of the Acropolis and across the rooftops - spectacular, there can't be many other hotels in this price range with such a wonderful view.
Thank you for a wonderful stay, if I come back I will definately stay here again.
