The Candia Hotel is the best budget hotel I ever stayed in & does not deserve the poor feed back cited by other people on Tripadvisor! The room & ensuite bathroom was very clean & pleasant & was freshened up every day.
I enjoyed a breakfast of Greek yougurt, honey, fresh sesame seed roll & as much(good) coffee as I wanted.
The staff were very pleasant & helpful & I would definitely stay there again!
The hotel has an excellent location to travel from as Metros & suburban rail links are very close by.This means you could be in Corinth in 40 mins or so.
Not in the prettiest of locations but I felt safe as a woman travelling alone.
All in all, the Candia offers value for money & is clean & pleasant!

  • Liked — Value for money & very clean.
  • Disliked — Pool was cold!

I stayed here April 5, 6, 7 2008 and would never do it again. The hotel is very shabby and needs an update terribly (or a total demolition may be preferred). The website touted it as a very nice resort with wonderful views of the Acropolis, with large clean rooms and an excellent restaurant. When I arrived I knew immediately that this was not the case. The electricity in my room did not work (no lights) because the knob attached to the key was malfunctioning and when I confronted the management they assured me it was functional. 20 minutes of arguing later, they offered me a partial refund. I paid 70 Euro for this room and they offered me a 10 euro (about $15) discount. I took it and dealt with it. They came up and fixed the electricity, and I almost wish they didn't--when the lights came on the room was filthy. There were 3 beds in the room (all twin. I was told there would be 2 queens and a sofabed) and all were disgustingly filthy. The bed that was cleanest was awful, and I'm VERY glad I took my own sheets. The bedspreads were covered with cigarette burns and holes and the sheets and pillows were stained yellow and green (I don't want to know why). I decided maybe it would be better to go down and eat dinner (I was very hungry after my 14 hour flight) and I should have gone out to a taberna. Dinner was disgusting. The waitresses came by and literally SLOPPED the food (some was unidentifiable) on the plates and dashed off. They don't come by to ask if you would like more water or anything else, they just leave. The only thing that was nice were the oranges for dessert. They were the sweetest and juiciest oranges I have ever had. Other than that orange, the hotel was revolting and the management needs to either update it or knock it down and rebuild. The "amazing view" I saw was of the bus garage and the back alley, and the 4 dead birds (happily rotting away) on my "balcony".

If you value your money or your health, stay away from the Hotel Candia!

  • Liked — The oranges at dinner

We stayed at the Hotel Candia for a recent trip to Athens. It was the "budget" offering that the travel agent gave us, and really was everything we needed. It was a place to sleep, the room was cleaned every day, and it was right down the street from the Metro station. We weren't going in expecting a 5 star hotel, so we were completely happy with our stay there.

Breakfast wasn't great (didn't want to touch the eggs and sausages), but we were able to eat enough to get us through to lunch.

  • Liked — 2 minute walk to the metro
  • Disliked — Not super-close to the center.

The hotel is a bit tattered and torn, but the front desk was execptionally helpful. A plus was the free internet access.

The biggest problem for us was the amount of smoking in the entire hotel, which actually made sleeping hard. (Okay , there was an excessive amount of smoking in the country!)

All in all, if you want a cheap hotel and don't mind smoke (or can figure a way to get rid of the smell,) then this is an excellent choice.

  • Liked — helpful front desk
  • Disliked — ver very smoked filled

Took a group of A Level Students to Athens and we stayed here. Perfect for the tube. Staff really friendly. Some nights it was very noisy - Not only because of kids staying but their teachers in the corridors talking loudly for hours. Food was always with chips. Not good for the veggies amongst us - rice and chips one night. Liked the fresh fruit for puddings though. The kids thought the place was good. Any problems on arrival were sorted within minutes. Shame the rooftop pool was closed at this time of year. Overall - very comfortable - if a little noisy at nights.

  • Liked — Close to tube
  • Disliked — Noisy at night
