“The view was amazing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I do not know how many Michelin stars this Hotel has. It Has 5 stars on the marquee. but I have learned that in Greece, what you see is not always what you get. I agree that this hotel is not a 5 star experience.

Starting with the good; The view from our hotel room, though only on the 3rd floor, knocked our eyes out. An amazing view of the Acropolis, day and night was always there for our enjoyment. The room was quiet, with little traffic noise. The walls are thin though, and we could definitively hear noise of conversation and activity from other rooms. Luckily, we had considerate neighbors and this was not an issue.

The top floor restaurant had an even more amazing view, and he food was pretty good, though not exceptional.

Though sold as a non smoking room, our room smelled of smoke and even had an ashtray. When I inquired about this at the front desk, I was informed that it was a non smoking room but if I wanted an "absolutely non smoking room" I would have to give up my view. We stuck it out.

The hotel is in severe need of an update, the furniture and carpets are worn and faded. The bathroom had very fancy multi headed shower, but no shower curtain, so using this contraption literally sprayed down the entire bathroom. They did not provide amenities that are pretty standard at this price range, like hair conditioner, but inexplicably did provide 2 dumbells (2 pounds)

The service was inconsistent. The night front desk person was surly and unhelpful. Others went out of there way to be sure we were comfortable. We also experienced the daily Mini Bar Police others have mentioned.

Overall we we felt that we could have done better for the price.

Did I mention that the view was amazing?

“Certainly not a 5 star hotel. Disapointed.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

If I knew that the bargain price of a 5 star hotel would provide a room of less than 4 stars, should have chosen President Hotel from the start.

The room was small and disapointing (room nr 329).
Every morning around 9, they used to knock the door asking if I used anything from the mini bar. Maybe they were pretty curious to see if I had any of the mini bar's 500ml water (for 3,5 euro each).

One day I left the room at 16:00 and when I returned 10 hrs later, the room hadn't been cleaned. No towels - no shower of course.

The TV set was an old one and a button was missing.

The internet connection costed 1 hour 6 euro!
Oh! The Parking! 25 euro per night!

Breakfast for 25 euros!

At this 4 star hotel where you feel that even breathing air costs.

Dear Mr Yiannoulis,

We would like to thank you for taking the time to share your experience and comments posted on February 2nd with Trip Advisor.
Our guests’ feedback is always welcome, bad or good reviews, as it is very important towards our continuous improvement. We always strive to provide the best possible hospitality and service to all of our Guests.

Regarding your review I would like to point out the following; The reason why your room was not cleaned, towels changed etc. was due to the fact that the Do Not Disturb card was left on the door.

As for the internet fee , the hotel offers a wide range of internet fees and packages which one can choose from . Also, there is free internet in the hotels’ reception and lobby area.

The room rate that was chosen was the most economical and therefore not inclusive of breakfast. Once again , there are many economical packages to choose from which include breakfast and other services

Once more we would like to thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us and we do hope that the next time you choose to visit Athens you will allow us to show you the effort that we put in order to create unique experiences.

With kind regards,

The St George Lycabettus Hotel is a nice hotel at an excellent location in Athens Kolonaki.
Rooms are of very good size with nice bathrooms and very clean.
We went on a business trip and we had an excellent service throughout our stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an Acropolis view

“St George Lycabettus Boutique Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

The St George Lycabettus Boutique Hotel is a family owned luxury property that has most probably, the finest view of the Acropolis that money can buy. This is not just a jewel in the crown but the whole box of treasure in my view.
Athens has one or two other luxury properties that would give their right arms to match a view such as this and the St George milks it for all its worth. The breakfast room and main restaurant Le Grand Balcon is on the top floor for example, providing a stunning panorama of the city and the Pantheon from wherever you sit; the perfect start or end to your day.
Then of course there are the bedrooms. If you treat yourself to an exterior room you’ll have a balcony with a view almost matching the restaurant. That said, the rooms are a little on the small side, but when you consider most of the space is taken up by a huge bed swathed in crisp linen, then I suppose it’s not a bad compromise.
The lounge areas are comfortable and particularly cosy at night when the glow of candles abounds.
For a boutique style hotel, the St George throws in a few added bonuses you wouldn’t expect; a roof top pool in the summer months, providing some welcome respite from the Athens heat, an art gallery, gym and spa in the basement and Frame, one of the hottest nightspots in town. And it’s the kind of hotel that’s small enough for the staff to get to know you, but also hold its own against the grander competition just down the hill in Syntagma Square.
Although the popular spots of Athens like Plaka, Psiri and the ancient monuments are all easily within walking distance, the quiet leafy oasis of Kolonaki with its cafes, fashion boutiques and little squares is a haven to return to after a busy day.
I was at the St George over the New Year festivities and standing there with my fellow revellers (many of them locals) high up on the terrace of the Le Grand Balcon watching the New Year’s Eve fireworks lighting up the city, I felt a little privileged. It was, dare I say it, a moment to savour, particularly after a momentous economic year of struggle. Mind you, the savouring was all the more sweet at the sumptuous buffet breakfast they provided from 5am for those who needed some energy replenishment.
I travel very frequently and the St George is certainly a hotel I will return to. As long as I get a room with that view of course!

Room Tip: Acropolis view is stunning

After the first night when 3 Greeks had an all night party next door, we had a great stay! Well worth paying for a balcony overlooking Accropolis. Restaurant good, breakfast excellent

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet location, and pay for a balcony/view
