A belated review. Thought I'd done it last year. Hope it is of use to someone.

Purely by chance we had booked to stay here for a few days from 10th June 2010 and there was a medieval fair taking place so there was plenty going on in the town making for a great atmosphere. A google search suggests that it's an annual event and it's worth catching if you want to sample a bit of the local culture.

Anyway, the hotel itself.

The location is quiet and on a map looks a bit remote but in reality it is an easy walk into the main part of town. The gent on reception was very helpful and provided us with a map and some recommendations for eating out. Breakfast, which is ok but nothing memorable, is served in a large room at the top of the building with good views. The rooms are fairly large, basic but ok.

Although we stayed here for 3 nights we had a car so used it as a base for exploring and for our purposes everything was fine. We would recommend the hotel but not for a long stay. Without catching the festival the whole visit might have been a bit flat.

The only interest in staying in this hotel is to do research on interior design form the 70's, because everything is genuinely from the 70's! All the furniture, tiles, carpets, lamps and even the telephones! Unfortunatly not everything is well preserved.
A part from this interior design detail, the rooms are tacky, the matresses are bad, the tv is too small and the signal is lousy, the stairs are disgusting, the breakfast is one of the worst i've seen in a place that it's supposed to be an hotel: only one variety of breakfast cereals, only 2 varieties of bread, no eggs, no fruit, no cake or other sweets, no expresso, not even a toaster!
Positive things: very friendly staff

We were on a 2 and a half week trip in Portugal with my sister-in-law. The hotel was good value for money, nicely located along the water and a ten minute walk into the town. The hallways were nicer than the room, with glass cases of local pottery displayed. The room was fine, though. A minor complaint: the breakfast was awful, the worst one we had had in Portugal. The hotel could charge maybe a few extra €s for the room and serve something appetizing. There was an extra charge if one wanted anything more. The hotel staff was helpful and friendly, from our experience the norm.

I was living in the hotel for about 3 weeks and is not a 4 star one. The rooms are very clean and cozy, the service is also good, except with the excesive cleaning. Even if the "DO NOT DISTURB" sign is outside, the receptionist will call you to confirm if u dont want any cleaning, many time this wake me up. In the sunny days the pool is busy so is noisy and cannot sleep during day light.
