We stayed for three nights in total, either side of a football match, having been stranded for an extra night due to the General Strike. This hotel is located in a smart residential part of town, on the side of the Boavista stadium. Ultra modern, stylish and luxurious, the staff are uber professional and efficient, yet supremly friendly. Free internet access helped us sort out travel arrangements after the Strike was over. Rooms are spotless, non-smoking, spacious and stylish, and the beds very comfortable. Great city views from upper floors. We got a great price so it was excellent value for money. I've stayed in 5 star hotels in the same area before - this felt 5 star at a 4 star price. 10 out of 10 all round for the Bessa.

Stayed here for business (offsite conference) for four days at the beginning of June 2010. Can't recommend it higher - was a lovely place to stay, with immaculate rooms that seemed like new. Staff were excellent, particularly our friendly waitress who was always there to help out (or fetch another drink!). Staff seemed to enjoy their work, and plenty of friendly banter between them gave the hotel a professional, but friendly feel.
We needed to stay on for a few hours after checkout to fit in with connecting flights – was no problem and they were happy to arrange a very decent taxi to the airport. Internet in the room is 3 cents/minute (which is handy, but would have preferred free!), though there are four free-to-use desktop PC’s in the lobby.
Really enjoyed my time here and would happily return.

For business again in Porto at the end of March, decided to try the Bessa hotel for its convenient location and affordable price. Quite near the Sheraton, where I have been a few times this seemed a good option. Located beside the Bessa stadion, near Boavista avenue, a 15minute walk to the metro or 15minute walk to the nearest shopping center.
The lobby is not very big, but it is stylish and modern. Check-in was a breeze and the staff was very polite. The room itself was a double, but wasn't spoilt with extra space, quite compact but not too small. Bathroom was clean and with the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. The view is nothing that will take your breath away, my room faced the street and the school playground, but the other side I think was worse.
Bed was comfortable and the TV had lots of channels. Internet at 3 Euro cents a minute is one of the cheaper ones I have seen in a while.
I ate at the restaurant, which was a bit expensive, but the food was good and service too. The baby lamb chops and asparagus/ veggie mix was very tasty, especially the asparagus was very nice indeed. Breakfast for 9€ was an excellent surprise, lots of pastries, good eggs, fruits, coffee, breads, the lot. Very nice, don't miss it! Keep it up!

On the minus side I do have to mention that the fact that you can still smoke in this hotel lobby and the bar area, disappointed me a bit. As the bar/ lounge area is not too big, the smoke is everywhere. The other thing that annoyed me a bit was the individual plastic wrapping of plastic cups in the bathroom in the name of sanitizing, what a complete waste of plastic and the environment.

All in all a very good stay, the staff was friendly and attentive and the room was up to par. Next time, I will be staying again at the Bessa! Keep it up!

I stayed in this hotel both for pirvate and business purposes...I must say that it is top quality. The only bad thing is the situation...quite far from the city centre...but the price is so good for such a good hotel ! The food is fine too. Service is high quality. I would however recommend the hotel to offer the wifi connection...it is so common now in many places..having to pay, to get a code, etc...a bit complicated to surf the net nowadays ! I strongly recommend the place even if far from the city centre, you can always go by metro to the best sights in town !
