“Excellent option for a business travel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

AC Porto is very well located, if you have a car, and want to stay in a hotel where everything is clean, clear and professional. Not being a great choice, clearly matches the requirement of value for money, and has everything you need when travelling in business - free internet, large desks at the room, good fully equiped bathroom and a free minibar (w/o alchool). If you are a soccer fan, then this is the right hotel as it is walking distance from Dragao Stadium.

Room Tip: The higher the better; there are smoking & non smoking rooms

“Rooms are rather too 'manly' for my liking”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

I spent last night at the AC - hadn't realised it was part of the Marriott group and it didn't feel very Marriot in character. The lobby is rather grand, but has the air of trying a bit TOO hard - too many whacky sculptures, too many vases and 'style' things. Looks like the designer over dosed on back copies of Elle Deco.

The room is like a homage to a 1980s idea of masculine bedroom - think of Mickey Rourke's appartment in 91/2 Weeks, but cheaper. It's all dark wood and black leather - clearly the testosterone associated with being so close to the football stadium has rubbed off, and indeed I was told that this is one of the European Cup hotels from the Spain/Portugal tournament.

The bed was comfortable so long as you didn't move at which point it creaked like an old man's knees. God help the neighbours if anyone should attempt to have sex in a bed like this - better bring the ear plugs. A good thing I was on my own.

The bathroom is gorgeous - fantastic thick moulded glass sink. The sort of thing you could never have at home as you'd spend hours every day trying to keep it clean. No room safe or iron/trouser press.

Breakfast OK but nothing special. Very limited hot food.

“Hotel near to FC Porto Stadium”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

The AC Porto Hotel is convenient for visiting Porto positioned alongside the Fc Porto football stadium.
Near to Porto city it is handy for both business and tourist visitors.
The hotel is comfortable and also near to a large shopping mall.
Car parking is a little limited at the hotel but there is an underground car park nearby.
The main motorway is very near and visible from the hotel.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the higher floors to limit the effect of noise from the motorway.

“Nice place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

We stayed here as part of a tour package, and it was lovely! We were only here one night and didn't really get much chance to look around the local area as we were in the main town centre for the time we were there. Hotel was lovely, very clean and tidy. No problems with any noise, breakfast was delicious! Definitely 4 start quality

“Nice staff but not really a Marriott”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011 via mobile

As a very loyal Marriott Platinum Elite customer, I selected this hotel for a recent business trip based largely on the Marriott name.

• The location was okay
• The building appearance was fine
• Room service was responsive but food quality was lacking...blah
• A reasonable buffet breakfast was included in the room rate

Soon after check-in I received a sealed "welcome letter" from the manager thanking me for being a loyal Marriott customer - yet - advising me that my status effectively meant nothing there and that as a guest I would not be eligible to receive points and such under the Marriott Rewards program until after the start of 2012. If I had known this when I made the reservation I probably would have tried a different hotel.

Wanting to tune up a suit, I asked for a steam iron. As in many Mediterranean regions, there were no irons available but clothes pressing service was available at a relatively reasonable cost (4.20 euro per pair of suit pants).

The real issue didn't occur until midnight on my first nights' stay when water started to leak from the bathroom ceiling. When I called the front desk I was told that they had been having such problems and asked if I would like to change rooms. No maintenance staff were then available to pursue a solution. Given the late hour I elected to remain in the room and placed the plastic bathroom waste can under the drip.

Before heading off for the next day of meetings the front desk staff advised me they would either fix the problem that day or change my room. Returned around 7 pm that night and was told that the problem had been remedied. Found the waste can still positioned under the leak with only a little water in it. A drop of water clung to the escutcheon around sprinkler head. Maybe residual but leaving in the morning anyway. Oh, well...
