My partner and I recently stayed at the Resiential Pau de Acucar for three nights from 14th October to 17th. We booked a terrace room thinking that it would be a superior room, however upon arrival the we were disappointed with the size room 603 which was tiny. It did however great access onto a large communal terrace which was great. The following morning we woke up to the most disgusting smell of sewerage coming from the bathroom. The smell was so bad that we couldn't even bare to have a wash in the room. We spoke to the hotel reception to complain and they sent a member of staff to check on the smell. The staff member after poking her head into the toilet quickly agreed saying "Si, Si" before running out of the room. The reception reluctantly agreed to move us to another room but stated that it would not be ready until after two O'clock and stated that they did not have any washing facilities for us to have a shower. After threatening to move to a different hotel, the reception staff reluctantly agreed for us to use another room to have a shower however we were not offered any apology and made to feel like we were putting the hotel staff out.
Upon returning from our lovely day in Porto were were given the key to room 308 which was a lovely size room, with large bathroom but unfortunately no terrace which we paid extra for.
The only problem with this room was the noise, as the door was in the staircase and close to the elevator which seemed to echo every footstep and voice, however this was not a major issue as the room smelt fine on comparison to the previous.
On the plus side, the hotel was in a superb location, just off the main square in easy walking distance of all attractions and there were some lovely bars and restaurants in the adjacent street. The hotel was charming in appearance and had some lovely period features and some Art Deco touches.
I would consider staying in this hotel again as it was great value for the location, and would have been perfect if we had received better customer service and 'sorry' from the staff would have gone a lone way.
