“A cheap place to sleep at”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

We had reserved 2 rooms for or our family in this hotel because it is well located, just at 200 m from the city hall. The location is the only positive point of this hotel.
Impossible to stop the car near the hotel during the time you unload your luggage and you check in. The car park is very close to the hotel, they have an agreement with a city park, but you only get an access after check-in!
The rooms were quite clean but old fashioned, the air conditionning was very noisy, electric heating device in the bathroom did not work, and moreover the door lock was broken...

Poor experience! I would not recommend this hotel

“A very curious experience- not allowed to wash your smalls”

We stayed here for 3 nights with a small group of friends. Allocation of rooms took ages but we were offered a choice and went for an adequate if rather old fashioned room looking onto the inner well to avoid any noise. The whole set up is 3 floors of rooms , 4th, 5th and 6th of a 30s apartment building with a magnificent spiral staircase plus 2 small lifts. The entrance from the street looks as if you are going into an arcade of shops. There is a small lounge/TV room with an eclectic collection of antiques and vintage items and a much too small Breakfast room on the 6th floor which does not have enough room to accomodate late comers who probably will not have anything to eat anyway as the buffet is not adequately replenished. Coffee is awful, bread rolls fresh but dull, croissants stodgy and processed ham and cheese. Cake is OK.
Staff generally have a take it or leave it attitude and will certainly not go out of their way to be helpful, 2 out of the 3 mornings we had to leave before the official breakfast opening time of 7 to go on trips but the staff refused to make any arrangements for coffee or a roll despite us having paid for B and B. The oddest thing and one that really got my back up was a sign in all the bathrooms saying that no laundry even of personal items was allowed as they had a laundry service and if laundry was done an extra charge of half a day's hotel rate would be added to the bill. I have never come across this before in any other of the 5 continents.

The only positive thing I could say was that the location was good for central Porto and one could easily walk to most places of interest remembering that Porto is very hilly. As a city I found it to be very decrepit and run down although with a curious faded charm. The waterfront port area is certainly worth a day or two.

“Good location, clean and friendly staff”

We selected this residencial for its location and price and were very satisfied. We occupied a small suite on the 6th floor with access to a large, but shared terrace. The rooms were clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good but the room gets cramped by 9 am. Would not hesitate to return.

“Nice location and nostalgic athmosphere, friendly staff, but dirty bathroom”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011

The bathroom was dirty and the clerk at the reception desk promised to immediately send somebody to clean it. After he asked us whether it was clean afterwards and we told him, that there was no notable change, he told us that it will be cleaned again. Unfortunately it was still quite dirty after the second try. Noticing that the staff was already quite challenged by refilling the breakfast buffet, I can imagine, that this place is a bit understaffed.

Quirky and slightly old fashioned but very clean, spacious rooms with modern bathroom. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable recommended very good local restaurant. Breakfast plentiful but boring. If you like to sleep with windows open then ask for a room at the back as the corner front rooms face a local gathering spot with noisy night time refuse collections and the odd fist fight!
