We can but agree with some of the other recent reviews. The location in the centre of Porto is excellent. The lobby area leading to lounges and bar are decorated to a warm and comfortable classic style. The large dining room has lovely chandeliers, lots of glass mirrors and a fine stucco ceiling. Usually my wife and I do not eat in hotels but prefer to find more individual restaurants, however as this was a holiday period, we decided to eat in. Apart from one disaster with a totally overcooked Magret the food was really good, and very reasonably priced. The value for money also extended to the wine list, a bottle of house wine at 6 Euros!Service was functionally efficient but not the friendliest.
The disappointment came with regard to the quality of the rooms. Small with few amenities. The heater failed and we had to manage with an electric radiator which the hotel provided. In terms of cleanliness the rooms were spotless, but for decor and atmosphere more reminiscent of the 60's or 70's.
Disappointed with Porto as a centre to visit, too many closed shops and graffiti, a city with the life sucked out. The Grande Hotel however did just enough to compensate

The location of this Classic hotel in Porto its great. The public areas are fantastic, but the rooms are poor and not so confortable as public areas.
Professional staff, but they can be more customer oriented.

I always read the reviews when choosing a Hotel and this one had some of the best out of the hotels I was looking at - However it exceeded my expectations!

The reception staff are so friendly and cannot help you enough.

We stayed in a large room on the first floor (suite) and it was lovely. Really nicely decorated and spacious. There was a well stocked mini bar with superbock and Mateus (all I wanted!) and more.

The breakfast was great - scrambled eggs, bacon, beans... Pastries & cakes (yummy). Fresh fruit which was lovely and the usual cereals and yoghurts.
We did not eat dinner in the restaurant but looked nice enough and the price was the same as other restaurants elsewhere.

The bar are was really nicely decorated and resonably priced.

It is really easy to get there from the airport - Get metro from airport( 2 euros ) to bolhao station, then walk up to St catarina rd and turn right - 2 minutes down road on your right side it,s the hotel. Takes about half hour.

Hotel is in a great location on a busy pedestrian street with loads of shops and at this time of year had roasted chestnut stalls.

We had a late night flight so the hotel staff were generous enough to let us stay in the hotel room for longer which was a really nice gesture.

As stated in previous reviews, Porto is really hilly. But the hotel is really central so its not so bad.

Absolutely loved our stay and the staff were great so I would definitely come back and recommend to all!!!!

Good hotel, central location. Staff friendly and helpful. Decor typically Portuguese, rather dark in lobby and bar area. Bedrooms clean and simply furnished. Restaurant was nearly always empty but this was low season. Had breakfast whilst there, this was adequate but not extensive. We did eat in the restaurant on 2 evenings, the menu was average and not particularly to my taste but compared to other establishments reasonably priced. As this was a business trip the hotel was suitable. However, if I had been travelling with my husband for a weekend away then I think I would look for an alternative.
