The location of the hotel is perfect, everything is in a walkable distance and the church opposite full of Azulejos is just beautiful. Our room, however, was tiny. Which is okay considering the good price. Unfortunately, the guests seemed to be very much into partying, as well in the hotel as in town, meaning the came home in the early morning hours making a lot of noise. The rooms have little "windows" above the doors, which means every time someone switched on the lights the room was brightly lit. At the entrance there is a loud bell that rings every time someone gets in. As we were located on the first floor it was clearly audible and quite nerve-racking. The room and bathroom were clean, towels were changed every day. However, we received towels with large holes in them. I've read in another review that their room had a mini fridge. Ours didn't, so there might be a difference in the rooms regarding size and facilities.
Due to the lack of sleep we were shattered when we left Porto, so I wouldn't stay again.

The Pensão do Norte is situated a few metres from Bolhão metro station with several bus routes just as close. It is in a commercial area with many shops and although there a several daytime cafés nearby bars, restaurants and most of Porto's tourist attractions are further away. The staff were friendly and we had time, on our climb up to the third floor (no lift), to appreciate the wide staircase and the good standard of cleanliness. The rooms to the right of the staircase are off a carpeted corridor however our room (36) was to the other side reached down a few steps and then back up again. Unfortunately uncarpeted marble floors are the order of the day here and the less considerate, heavy-footed. guests who return late at night can make a lot of noise. The room itself was small and the double bed likewise however two large widows made it quite bright and airy.. The small wardrobe held only three hangars and the only one of those with a trouser bar was of the cheapest wire type. There was one shelf in the wardrobe and only one drawer for clothes storage although a small, silent, fridge was useful. The bathroom was tiny with a three-quarter size bath. The power socket was rather loose, the towel rail had lost most of its chrome but had plenty of rust in its place, and the floor tiles are rather slippery to wet feet. Unfortunately the road outside has steady traffic most of the time which would not suit light sleepers. Some of these problems could be easily and quite cheaply rectified but, all-in-all, the Pensão do Norte was fair value for money at the 45€ per night that we paid.

Excellent position, right above the Bolhao metro station and within walking distance from most attractions.Good quality/price ratio, no breakfast served, carpets in the corridors were of average conditions. Personnel was very friendly and helpful (although not all of them speak English). Wi-fi available although problematic because its range covers mostly the common room.

For the price (45 euros), I thought it was a great value. There is AC, fridge and TV (only 3 channels thought) in the room with private bathroom. It is very clean with nice wooden floors and the staff is quite nice. They do clean the room every day. The location is perfect, close to a pleasant pedestrian street, shopping center, metro, Bolhao market... They don't serve breakfast but Bolhao market opens early (except Sundays) and there are many cafes nearby. It is nothing like a 5 star, but anyway, do you really want to spend a lot of time in your room while in Porto?
