Braga is like most small cities in europe - full of one way streets but the locals are more than happy to point you in the right direction(s) after they have had a lenghthy discussion about who knows the best way to get you to where you want to go! But seriously this is a friendly, tidy - if a little compact - hotel with a lovely piazza within a stone's throw (read lots of small and cheap but nice eateries) - the price is right - a double bed with a/c for 50 Euros including breakfast and secure parking if you have a car. If you're in the neighbourhood it's a good option instead of the overpriced 'chains'.

Last year when I lived in Braga, the Sofia was the place for relatives to come and stay when they were visiting. It is very well placed in the centre of the city on a very pretty cobbled square. The rooms are well equipped with lovely marble bathrooms, comfortable beds and lovely views of the many church spires, including Se, the cathedral. Breakfast is an excellent buffet - try the quince jelly which goes very well with cheese. The staff are typically reserved but have a chat and they soon warm to you. I would always go back here. As an aside, the pastelaria (bakery) across the square is the best in town.

I was there this fall and fell in love with this great little city just about Porto Portugal about a 30 minute drive. Nestled in a great location was this clean and basic room with a combination bath/shower. What I really liked about it was out the front door you can walk anywhere in this city with hundreds of little shops and catherdals. I found the food a people. Wear comfortable shoes because you need to walk as the parking is away from the centre of town. When ordering food try the soups they are so tasty and always fresh and warm. I would recommend this place if your looking for a real European treat.
