“a second rate hotel - won't go there again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2011

We only stayed at the Turismo because it was where Titan HiTours booked the party for 2 nights before their cruise on the Douro (Costa Verde & Douro River). A second rate hotel which chimed with the second,no third rate, service provided throughout the trip by Titan Hi Tours. (If you are thinking of going with them, maybe you ought to think again!).

Our room was on the seventh floor just below the terrace with the bar and swimming pool so it was noisy with chairs scraping and the click clack of footsteps of those at the bar.
The room was basic and no frills, not even shampoo or a safe. The decor throughout the hotel was tired.. Miserably slow lifts (elevators)
The hotel is a longish walk from the historic centre of the town on a corner of two busy roads.
Breakfast was the best thing about the hotel
Not a four star establishment: we won't be going back

Room Tip: avoid the 7th floor

“Amenities not consistent with a 4 star hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2010

I stayed in this hotel in mid September 2010. The rooms were large, the staff were generally helpful, although one spoke virtually no English. Another gave me incorrect information on the availability of taxis at a tourist location which ended up in a near disaster because I had no way to get home and it would have been a two hour walk straight down a hill with no sidewalks.

There are things that did not warrant a four star rating. First., the breakfast was terrible. I am comparing it to other 4 star hotels in Europe. I know that other reviews have said the opposite, but those reviews are over 2 years old. The coffee was simply awful, and the selection quite poor. I would definitely recommend eating elsewhere. I ate at the hotel restaurant once for dinner and the food was overpriced and nothing special, although the service was good.

Secondly, I echo the reviewer who noted that certain things, like shampoo, were not only in the room, they were not available from the front desk.

Moroever, the wireless connection did not work in the rooms. They had computers available on the second floor, and the wireless connection worked there.

Another point: Because of their energy efficient lighting in the hallways, they were dark. If you travel alone, this may be important to you.

The rooms were large but nothing special.

Finally, be aware that this hotel is not particularly close to the city center.

“No way this is a 4 star hotel”

Stayed in the Hotel Turismo for 3 nights in a suite with 3 people and an infant.

The hotel could definitely use a renovation, the decor is drab and dated and it feels kind of grungy on the inside. Breakfast is included, but it's not very good... I'd recommend going to one of the many nice cafe's on Avenida Liberdade instead. Other details that you would expect from a 4 star hotel are missing as well.. e.g. no shampoo was provided, just a locker-room style soap dispenser built into the shower.

The room was OK. The beds were reasonably comfortable, but nothing really special. The AC unit was pretty noisy and kept one of our rooms warm and the other cold (there was only one thermostat in the suite)... that said, there was no road noise at all.

The only thing we found that might come close to bumping this hotel up to 4 stars was the rooftop pool which was actually pretty nice... but if your not interested in that, there's really nothing to recommend this hotel.

I've stayed at the Bracara Augusta before (another 4 star hotel in Braga) and it was much, much better than the Turismo for the same price. Would definitely recommend that instead of this hotel.

“Central hotel with spacious rooms: great breakfast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2010

I stayed with my wife, as part of a bigger group, in this hotel, for one night only in May 2010. I found this hotel very nice. The location is excellent. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Hotel staff was helpful, even if we arrived very late in the night. The breakfast is delicious, variegated and really good!
