“Very disappointed this time!”

I was looking forward to returning to Duas Torres for a third time, unfortunately things did not turn out that way. Towels and blankets used as draft excluders. After a storm one night, we had to report flooding the following morning, this we did with no surprise at all from the staff. Before we left we cataloged 9 different faults. We have always been happy at Duas Torres and recommended to friends, this I shall no longer be doing. Anyone going there avoid room s201 like the plague.

“Bugs all over the place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2010

We stayed 2 nights in this hotel.
The room was not very clean and the fridge didn't work.
After we returned from breakfast, we discovered that suddenly there were bugs all over the bathroom. Yak!
The cleaning lady finally destroyd the bugs, but only the thought of having to stay another night made us almost wanna throw up!
Only good thing about this hotel was the breakfast and the excellent view!
So this hotel: not again for us!

“Good value, good sized rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2010

I have given this 3* apart hotel full marks. It cannot be compared with the 5* hotels we have stayed in Madeira but for under £30 a night you can’t go wrong. Not luxurious, but clean.
What do you get? A good size bedroom with a large wardrobe, twin beds and a dressing table. A good sized lounge with 2 seater sofa, an easy chair, a dining table and 5 chairs, a sdeboard with 21” (approx) flat screen TV, air con/heating. A small galley kitchen with a full size fridge, microwave and two-pan hotplate. Bathroom has a small bath with shower and plenty of towels. You also get two pool towels so you don’t need to pack beach towels.
We had a balcony with table, chairs and a fabulous view.
The hotel is located at the far end of the end of the “hotel zone” so it’s a 40miute walk into the town center, but there is a frequent bus service right outside the hotel. (Only 1€60 if you buy tickets from the kiosk in town or 2€10 on the bus.) The bus to Monte leaves from the same stop, at the same ticket price it’s cheaper than the cable car and much more exciting – narrow steep roads. We walked into Funchal and back to the hotel after our visit. Very steep, but it downhill all the way!
Plenty of good restaurants close by, Real Canoa rated no 2 by TripAdvisor is just round the corner. A large supermarket is just across the road in the bottom floor of the shopping complex. Buy your breakfast and beers for the fridge!
Between the hotel and the sea is one of the lido type bathing areas and a lovely promenade. If you turn left out of the carpark and take your 1st left, cross the road at the bottom keeping the sea on your left ‘til you come to some steps. (About 5 mins) If you go down them, through the tunnel you will come to a rocky beach. If you keep going you will come to a (black) sandy beach with bars and snack restaurants on the promenade. You will either have to go down to the beach or take small detour on the road when you get to the bar called the Yacht Club to get there.
Free internet in the reception area.

“We liked it”

We ‘d stayed for 5 nights in September. Check-in and check-out was fast. There is shopping centre (with superb supermarket Pingo Doce) across the street-very convenient. Apartment was huge – with separate sitting area with equipped kitchen, sleeping room, balcony with table and couple of chairs and sea-view. Free parking. We could catch free WI-FI from the balcony (but the signal was weak). Paid 38 euro per night. We’ll definitely return!

“excellent affordable accomodation in good location”

A Madeiran friend recommended this hotel to us.We only needed accom for one night. This place is right beside the sea but also opposite a large pleasant shopping centre and five minutes by bus from Funchal. Each room has a sitting area and a kitchenette. - All this for just 37 euro!
The restaurant has a fantastic open balcony looking out over the rocks and sea.The food is pretty good too. If we go back to Madeira we will stay here again.
