Just returned from Madeira. The Porto Mare Hotel/Residence is highly recommended. Immaculate rooms and excellent facilities. We stayed in the Residence in a self catering apartment. Very well equipped and lots of space with huge beds. We could use all the facilities in the hotel and the Eden Mar next door. It is situated a short distance from the centre of Funchal but the hotel operates a free bus or the local transport is on the doorstep. As said in a previous review, it is like coming home and we wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.

We were in this magnificent hotel for the tenth time! Every time we arrive here, it's like coming home.
This time, we went especially for the fireworks and we were not disappointed: it was beautifull!

We have just returned from our visit to Madeira, this time we took along our two grand daughters 13 and 14 years old. The girls were greatly impressed with our appartment, the swimming pools, the Gardens and patio area, the weather was delightful and we visited lots of places of interest. The reception staff as always were very welcoming and the maids who look after us are very friendly and treat us like old friends.
The firework display was spectacular and we greatly appreciated the Management organising the transport which took us up to the Garrison where we had a wonderful view of the whole of Funchal.

We will be returning to Madeira in February for another 2 weeks.

We had booked the Eden Mar (we had stayed previously at the Eden Mar and the Porto Mare hotel) upon arrival we were informed that our accomodation had been changed to the Residence as parts of the Eden Mar were undergoing renovation work.The receptionist advised us that if we were unhappy with the apartment we had only to tell them and they would would look at alternatives for us.The apartment we were allocated was lovely with two bedrooms and two bathrooms we also had a private garden area with sunloungers and two patio areas.The apartment was well equipped and had a coffee maker,microwave and oven etc.We were very happy with all the staff who were friendly,helpful and efficient.The gardens in this complex are beautiful and the pools lovely one of the reasons we returned and we were pleased to see the cleanliness and standards maintained.The weather was sunny every day with a couple of overcast afternoons and we could sunbathe during the day great for December.The christmas lights were impressive and Funchal had a lively atmostphere down in the town.We had a fantastic week enhanced by the lovely apartment allocated to us which was a bonus,so thanks once again to the staff and manager for making us feel welcome and maintaining excellent standards.
