Advertised as a five star hotel it falls a little short of that expected of the very best. Housekeeping could be better and although claimed in the literature to have four restaurants you have in reality "The Pub" and Tavern Bar to choose from. Very extensive breakfast menu but unfortunately fried or English breakfasts are not cooked to order, but kept heated like a school canteen and inevitable cool and the eggs congeal. Overall very good value for money but why the hotel allows time share touts to operate, albeit with an associated company, is a disappointment. However, they do offer you free drinks, and at a later meeting a fifty euro discount off the bill if you are prepared to be included in a "minimum of 90 minutes" of spiel to persuade to you to purchase 400,000option points for £4,999. Best Option is to take the free drinks, stick to the hour and a half presentation on a rainy day and collect your fifty euros and keep your hand in your pocket. Restaurants in the old town are half the price of the hotel and we highly recommend La Bica near the Old Town Fruit Market.

It was our 2nd stay here and we loved it! Madeira is a magnificant island and the weather is nice all year round. We loved the oceanic pool outside. The hotel has very good and well maintained infrastructures. The staff is very friendly and service impec. We will definitely return!

We spent a week in one of the Beachclub timeshare apartments at this resort - the views were magnificent and we had a very relaxing stay. The staff were friendly, efficient and hard working

This is an excellent, well run hotel with helpful staff. There are 2 outdoor and 1 inddor pool with a health suite and a recreation room with table tennis and pool etc. Our room faced the road and mountains and was north facing but was quiet and cool. It is only worth paying extra for a sea view if you like to spend time on your balcony in the sun as the sea views are generally south facing. There are plenty of terraces to sit and watch the sea and the ships coming in and out of the harbour.

It is an easy walk into town but we bought a weeks ticket for the local bus so that we could get to the centre quickly and easily as, having spent 4 or 5 hours walking levadas we did not want that extra kilometer to walk when we got back to Funchal. We discovered that you can buy books of 10 tickets from near the bus station as well.

I would have given this hotel a 5 but for their trying to sell timeshare in another of the company's new developments. This was not persistant but although short lived, extremely irritating
