The first thing I should say is that it has been a while since I stayed here - I stayed for a week in February 2008.
The hotel is situated among the hills of the Estreito de Camara de Lobos, a short drive from the fishing village of Camara de Lobos itself. There isn't much of great interest in the immediate area, but the hotel and its grounds are very pleasant and all rooms have a balcony & view (not sure how good the view is from the ground floor however). Please note that the rooms are not in the old Quinta house, (where the Bacchus Gourmet Restaurant, bar, lounge, little library room are), but are in a modern purpose-built section of the hotel. I found the room and en suite bathroom very comfortable and pleasantly arranged/decorated.
The hotel has two restaurants, and if you get a half board package as I did, then you have a choice each day of which to eat in for your evening meal. Buffet breakfast is served in the Bacchus restaurant, plenty to keep most tastes happy, hot & cold selections, very enjoyable. The evening meal at Bacchus is a little more formal and consists of 5 courses. They do tend to 'big up' their culinary reputation and the food on the whole was very good, but perhaps not 5* on the international scale? The second restaurant in the Adega which has a more casual, rustic feel, and the menu reflects this. I thought the food here was delicious and on some nights they have traditional dancers and musicians too.
The pool is usable pretty much all year round as they do heat it and it has a winter covering (like a huge conservatory). I even swam when it was raining (as it does in February!). The staff were all very helpful and friendly. All in all I spent a very comfortable and enjoyable week here.
