This is not an easy place to get to from the U.S. With delays and layovers it was 30 hours door to door. We traded a timeshare week for a week at the Miramar. What a great property in a great location. Walking distance to both Funchal and the Lido. The venerable Reid's is directly across the street, so you know you are in a good neighborhood. Lovely gardens surround the hotel. We had a 2 bedroom/ 2 bath unit with a water view. Many rooms are not high enough for a view. A nice feature of our unit was 3 zones of climate control, one in each bedroom and another in the living room where there is a pullout sofa. The hop on hop off bus stops right across from the entrance. The housekeeping is excellent, the room and the hotel are immaculate. We will be back if we can find a quicker route to get there.

This was our third visit to Maderia and we found that the Miramar/village hotel was located within easy walking distance to the centre of Funchal. All staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel has a relaxing atmosphere with lots of charm. We stayed B&B and the food was excellent and plentiful, though the drinks were a little pricey. We did discover a nice Portuguese red wine called ALANDRA in the local supermarkets less then 2 euros a bottle(bargain). Will definitely go back on our next visit.

We have often stayed at the Miramar and thoroughly enjoyed our recent visit. We intend to return to the Miramar next year.
The Miramar Hotel is set in beautiful gardens and is designed to make full use of the natural setting. The hotel is located just across Estrada Monumental from Reid's. The hotel staff are friendly and most helpful. The breakfasts are good with plenty of choice. Our room was spacious and had a mountain view with a balcony overlooking the garden and swimming area. The room was clean with good facilities but the decor could do with some refurbishment. The swimming pools are very good and the gymnasium has adequate facilities.

This was our second Pestana experience, and after our experience of Pestana in the Algarve earlier in the year, we approached this with some trepidation. We should not have worried. This resort has a fairly typical 4* hotel set-up, together with another set of appartments in the 'Village', both set in the most beautiful gardens. Some facilities were shared, for example the main restaurant was in the village, a short walk through the garden.
The hotel had a separate 'fine dining' restaurant, open on three nights each week, which was to be strongly recommended to those who like good food, and by current prices in
Funchal at similar restaurants, it was not over priced.
Like so many hotels today, staff is being cut back everywhere, and the service levels are not what we would have expected. That said, we would recommend this hotel for adult visits - there is nothing for children.
