“Lovely family break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

My wife and I had stayed at this hotel about 5 years ago and I wanted to return with all of our family as it was my 60th birthday. We booked through Hotelsbooked, and we got a very good all inclusive deal.

The hotel is very pleasant, if a little old fashioned, but I like that. Our rooms were on the first floor, they overlooked the sea and were large and well appointed. The lounge area was very pleasant, and the staff were friendly.

Breakfast and dinner were both buffet style although we quite quickly got bored with the food and the dining room - this wasn't a problem for us, we ate out about 4 times in the evenings. If we had been on a restricted budget then it might have been a different story.

Lunches were taken in the pool bar, but we actually only ate there once because we were out and about - the food was cooked in the main kitchens and then carried about 50 yards to be served. Its probably different in the high season.

There was some form of entertainment in the lounge most evenings, OK its a bit naff, but not too awful.

Quinta do Sol is ideally situated between the town and the Lido, its not a huge hotel, but its comfortable and its a pleasant place to spend a relaxing week.

I shall stay there again

Room Tip: Facing the sea

“Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We stayed at the Enotel Quinta do Sol for two weeks early in 2011 and for three weeks early this year. We found the hotel welcoming and comfortable and very good value, although we only took the bed and breakfast option. We will certainly be going back next year, our only decision is whether to take three weeks or four.

Room Tip: We have had rooms 328 and 329, facing the sea with a good view of the ships, the traffic wasn't...

“Enotel Quinta do Sol, Funchal”

Stayed here 19 to 26 December 2011 as single person. Hotel well situated for getting to the centre of Funchal, one of the nearest, compared to most others. 15 mins easy walk or frequent buses across the road. I had bed and breakfast, which was buffet style and plenty to choose from, hot cooked food as well as yogurt, fruit, cold meat, toast, cereal, juice etc. Buffet dinner was an option for those on B & B, at 25 euros or 50 euros for 3 dinners. I found plenty of restaurants nearby and in town, even on 24 and 25 December. There was an outdoor pool and apparently you could get a voucher from reception to go to a nearby Enotel hotel and use their indoor heated pool. Bar and lounge area was spacious and bar run by cheerful and entertaining barman. Free computer and internet access in lounge. Hotel room spacious, I lucked out and had seaview, rooms have fridge and TV with around 50 channels. There was also a poolside cafe and a small spa with massage available if booked in advance. Lovely park just behind hotel, Would recommend and would go back another time.

“Dated decor but Clean and family friendly”

We stayed on Boxing day into New Year. It's true it does need upgrading into a more modern theme, however we were told that starting in January they are refreshing the outside of the Hotel (this is a good thing). However if you are to go and stay I'd advise anyone to get a sea view/front of hotel room only. We stayed in the back of the hotel (this did bring the price down by a huge amount) but it was noisy. The air-con units went off every 20 mins and in the middle of the night it was often a nightmare to get to sleep. The room itself was clean and we were more than happy with the space, as we had our little boy with us. The cleaners were Fantastic and asked if we wanted anything for our son just to ask. The best thing was the view on the 6th floor. The fireworks on the island New Years Eve were Amazing and we definitely had one of the best views in the area. The hotel even brought people from other hotels to come up there too! Families though if you have a young child take a pram! Walking into the centre and back again with a 3 year old is hard, as it's about a 15-20min walk down hill!. We found we had a connecting door to a room our other family were in next door, so we asked the cleaner to open it, and they did. That was great! We only stayed for a week bed and breakfast. The food was lovely (but can't comment on the dinner & tea) and basically for a cheap family get-away it was a good place to stay.

Room Tip: Keep to the front of the hotel for less noise of air-con units. However that is more expensive!

“COULD BE BETTER”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

We visited the Quinta Do Sol in late October and I must say at first I wondered what we had let ourselves into. The exterior was drab and badly in need of painting. However the inside was spick and span although a little dated.Thr we had was fine and the view over th eharbour was
magnificent. The buffet was a little sparse. Some days much better than others.Overall good value for money.
