Our second stay at Melia Mare and could not fault the hotel in any way. Staff most helpful, very clean room & facilities and the best breakfast buffet we have enjoyed on the island. Brilliant sea views from the pool area & our side sea view room also enjoyed good sea views. Our room was very quiet when doors closed & we had no problems with any noise from the road. Free internet offered near reception & very good indoor swimming pool.

One week stay at the beginning of February. A great deal with Hotelsbooked.com (i have no association with that company and have not used them before.) The Melia Madeira Mare is an excellent place to stay. The hotel is very modern, restful, with many sophisticated sculptures in public areas. I would particularly comment on the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff in all areas: the reception desk, restaurant and rooms.

The buffet restaurant is particularly impressive for breakfasts and dinner. Before arriving, I wondered whether 'in house' meals would become tedious for a whole week. But, due to the wide range of of the buffet, this was never an issue. The food at the Melia is exceptional.

I would have no hesitation about staying here again. Did I mention that the 'Yellow Bus' stops a few metres away? This is a great value way to travel between the hotels to the west of Funchal into the city, and back.

We stayed on a high floor and had a great balcony with lots of room to relax. It felt very private and the view over the bay was stunning.

Food was the usual buffet - ok if you like that sort of thing but we tended to try and find something in town.

We have just returned from a lovely holiday at this hotel, everything is of the standard expected of a 5* hotel in Madeira, the rooms were lovely, the indoor and outdoor pools were
great and the outdoor areas were very nice, loads of sunbeds and sitting out areas .

The only drawback with this hotel was the extortinate prices of the alcohol. We paid 15.50 Euros in the restaurant for a small bottle of Mateus Rose which was 4.40 Euros for the larger
size in the Supermarket across the road and also we paid 4.50 Euros for a bottle of water.
We visit Madeira about 5 times a year and always stay in 5* hotels so we know that drinks prices in these hotels are always expensive but in the Melia are really "over the top".

We visited the bar in the hotel on our first night and found a violinist playing to 3 people and on another night there was a saxophonist playing to not many more. I would like to suggest to the Management of this hotel that they bring down the prices of drinks in the bar by a couple of Euros and entice their guests to drink in their bar rather than go outside to find other bars for their evenings entertainment or retiring to their rooms with their own alcohol and watch TV which other guests we spoke to all seemed to be doing. Please drop the prices for a couple of weeks and see how it goes, you could be surprised!

We'll definitely stay here again but if the bar is still so dead we'll be relaxing with a drink elsewhere on the evening.
