“Just call it Casa Charming!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Casa Miradouro is one of those special places you always hope you'll find but rarely do. The young women who work there, Joy and Eza (not sure how to spell) are both friendly, helpful, sweet and efficient. We were given a map with very thorough instructions of how to get where we wanted to go and which bus to catch #434 to go to Palacio de Pena. The entire town of Sintra is hilly so if you don't like hills, this is not the place to visit but we thought it was beautiful and loved the ability to stretch our legs and exercise. The bed and breakfast is a short walk to town, maybe 10 minutes or so, and along the way, you'll see oranges and lemons growing steps away from the road, not to mention all types of beautiful flowers and quaint buildings. The grounds of the inn are lovely and the perfect place to wander about or sit and enjoy the peace and quiet plus the lovely view. Our room wowed us: so lovely and cozy and elegant all at the same time. We were on the second floor in the back room and had windows on 3 sides, with floor to ceiling shutters, a balcony, big fluffy comforters, bottles of water and a small dish of candy. The bed was very, very comfortable and there was a huge armoire with plenty of space for clothes and small bags. The bathroom was very nice, extremely clean and the hot water was hot: always appreciated! There is a nice parlor with plenty of books to read, (many of them travel books on Spain and Portugal), free internet, an honor bar with soft drinks, water and various alcoholic beverages to choose from, all in a beautiful space with a fireplace. It couldn't be nicer or cozier. Breakfast is served downstairs from the other spaces buffet style with various fruits, cheeses, meats, breads, etc. and one of the ladies will gladly cook eggs for you to accompany the buffet choices. We originally planned to take a taxi in Lisbon to Rossio station and ride the train to Sintra but at the last minute Casa Miradoura arranged transportation for us at the cost of 45 Euros each way. It's a short 30-minute cab ride away and since we had been travelling for several days prior, we were anxious to get to Sintra. The driver they sent was very nice and I wouldn't hesitate to use his service again. As for Sintra: it's beautiful, magical and a very special place. Prepare to be enchanted!

“Charming, relaxing, just beautiful...!”

Casa Miradouro exceeded our expectations on so many levels, so much so, it’s hard to begin this review. Expect to feel “lost” upon finding it as it sits on a winding residential street and behind a gate. You will be greeted by someone very friendly; everyone we met during our quick stay could not have been nicer. The rooms are so classy and elegant with wooden bed posts, vintage furniture pieces but with modern appliances and bathrooms. You almost feel as though you’re a guest in someone’s weekend home. Warning: if the weather is warm and you sleep with the windows open, don’t forget your bug spray. While the beds were very comfortable by European standards, we practically got eaten alive and were kicking ourselves that we didn’t think to bring it. It was an annoyance but we couldn’t possibly blame Casa Miradouro! Breakfast was lovely. Coffee is served from a French press and we were offered a selection of cereals, yogurts, fruits, breads, cheeses and meats. The location was just about a 10-minute walk to town, which was convenient. Last but not least, Luke (the owner) is a true gentleman. We had a rough time getting our car out of a small up-hill spot (we aren’t the best manual drivers) and he was so kind to do it for us when we embarrassingly told him we were struggling.

Room Tip: Just bring bug spray in warm months if you wish to sleep with the windows open.

“A great find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

We booked here last minute for one night. We wished we could have stayed here longer. Sintra was beautiful and Casa Miradouro was the perfect place to relax. The place is tastefully decorated and the service was exceptional. The breakfast was fresh and delicious. The best parts, however, were the views and the serene setting. A little bottle of wine, sitting in the yard as the sun is setting... can't be beat! Joy gave us recommendations on what to see and where to go and provided excellent service. Made for a great stay.

A few things to note... the steps and the hills. We were on the top floor of the Casa and it was a lot of steps, so not for the faint of heart. And the walk into town, while not overly far, is all uphill. It was warm when we were there, so it made for a good little workout.

Would have given this 4 stars except for the shower drainage problem that practically created a flood in our bedroom (judging from the water marks on the floor, other guests have encountered the same problem), which meant we couldn't take a proper shower. (The hotel flyer warns guests that they will be responsible for any damage to the property caused by the guest - an unusual "you break it, you own it" warning that we thought might possibly have been prompted by the inn's awareness of the flooding potential.) Aside from the plumbing problem, the room was clean and attractive, had a great view, and was within walking distance of the center of town.

“Wonderful B&B in magical Sintra”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

A beautiful home with large and tastefully decorated rooms. The service was exceptional, breakfast was plentiful and delicious, and the chilled white port on arrival was very welcome. - The house is close to the old town centre - as long as you can manage the walk up hill! - yet very quiet and peaceful. We would like to return and would recommend it compared to other B&Bs in the same price bracket.
