“Historic quinta and architecture, extensive and tranquil grounds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2009

This is an historic and tranquil quinta.

The architecture beautiful - and the grounds are extensive (but not "cultivated"), with orange-bearing trees, flowers, and a meadow.

A stay in the one of the two tower suites is worth the supplement -- as the suite has three floors: a ground floor with living room and fireplace, and a large bathroom; a second floor/landing with an extra sleeping area (that also is a great place for suit cases and such); and a third floor with huge bedroom, and a terrace overlooking the grounds. The furnishings are old and charming.

The quinta's restaurant is open only for breakfast -- but the village of Azeitao has an excellent restaurant, also called Azeitao.

“Country getaway near Lisbon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2007

We stayed at Quinta Das Torres which is a beautiful country estate located in a wine growing community about 30 minutes South of Lisbon. We arrived in the late afternoon for the last two nights in Portugal. The entire estate is covered in vines, which in October turn into gorgeous fall colors. We were surprised to find that somehow we had book a suite for 126 Euro. The suites are actually the tower rooms in each corner of the estate. The Tower rooms are two stories with a loft for extra sleeping areas in between the two levels. The upstairs consisted of twin beds, antique furniture and three floor to ceiling windows that open to views of the estate. The upstairs also has a massive terrace that was for our private use. There is no upstairs bathroom. Downstairs contains a large bathroom and a living room decorated with antiques complete with dining room table. The room was a bit musty upon arrival but after opening the windows it quickly dissapated. This is to be expected considering the property dates back to the 1500's. The phone system is a bit antiquated and we were not able to use our calling card from our room or office phone. There is no wireless access.

The grounds are rustic although there is a beautiful pool in the back of the property. Breakfast is included and consists of standard Portuguese fare of breads, jelly, ham, cheese, juice and coffee. The breakfast can be served in the breakfast room near the office or you can request it in your room.

The property felt very romantic and isolated yet within an hour drive from Evora and half that for Lisbon. We stayed on the weekend and this inn is a very popular venue for weddings and other events. There were events for both days that we were there. We would stand on our terrace and enjoy seeing the local people so happily enjoying their events. In the evening, the place is extremely quiet and it felt as though we were alone in our house.

If you are looking for a relaxing, very historic, romantic hideaway away from all the hustle and bustle, book here. If you are looking for all the modern conveniences and a happening nightlife, this is not the place for you. I also think that a family could enjoy the property as there is tons of space both indoors and out. Don't miss the winery tour in town, just down the road.
