“Super value business hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

Lisbon is one of my favourite cities, and such great value when compared with other European capitals. An equivalent hotel to this in Paris would set you back three times as much, and probably twice as much in Madrid.

The hotel is well situated (Lisbon is a small city and taxis are cheap - you'll pay around €10 to get here from the airport), and has parking available on the street or in a car park at the rear of the hotel. The reception area is a vast expanse of marble with an open plan bar and seating area and the restaurant is opposite the reception desk. The rooms have modern styling with very large bath / shower area and more than adequate bathroom space. The floors are "wooden" laminate, so the rooms don't have that cosy feel, but they are always spotlessly clean. The beds are large and comfortable with great pillows and linen. The usual TV & services are present, but don't expect any English TV channels apart from the omnipresent and eternally depressing BBC World and CNN.

The restaurant offers high quality international food which is well presented and the service is always superb. The restaurant lacks atmosphere, however, so I would recommend eating out if you have the time and the inclination to explore. The food in Lisbon is outrageously good, especially anything which comes from the sea. Bacalao (salt cod) is a must-have on any trip to Lisbon, as are the pasteis de belem (a.k.a. custard tarts).

Breakfast costs extra, and it's quite a lot extra. The upside is that you can eat until you burst, but you do pay for the privilege. Personally I prefer to go out to have a pastry and a strong coffee like the locals.

There are better hotels in Lisbon (Marriott, Sofitel and Ritz/Four Seasons), but frankly, they cost twice as much and are not twice as good. This was always my first choice hotel and I stayed here many times.

Oops, nearly forgot the spa! For those who like a spa, there's a very nicely appointed one on the first floor, worthy of a five star hotel, and within the complex there is a really well-equipped gym with cardio-vascular machines, multi-gym, free-weights and exercise rooms.

And finally, the staff here are all excellent - in general the Portuguese are faultlessly polite - and they take pride in the service offered.

Room Tip: It's a city centre hotel, so the higher floors are quieter, but I never really had an issue with...

This is a very expensiv hotel, and def not worth the money. The staff are always very rude and act like they hate their jobs. They were vey unfriendly and unhelpful. Rooms were average. You have to pay 40 euros to use the jacuzzi, steam etc. Terrible stay, and would not recommend.

“Not worth it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011 via mobile

It is supposed to be 5 stars, but to me it is more like 3 stars. It is very fancy, too much dor me, but there are so many things not worth it. Service not very good. Breakfast too pricey, 20 euros. And the restaurant, not good. Took my wine before the bottle was empty, cold vegetables, compact dessert mousse, muscatel with ice even though I asked for without....
No, I am not happy with my stay. I will not return and I will not recommend.

“Lovely hotel strange decor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

Very nice hotel, luxurious bathroom, comfy bed. Close to most amenities. Travel is very cheap, good metro service and taxis. You can stand in the shower and be watched by someone in bed as there was a glass screen into the bedroom! However, there was a blind to pull down if you're feeling shy. Breakfast was excellent too. Slightly different choices each day. Good value for money.

“Good value and friendly staff, but poor housekeeping”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2011

We booked through Splendia and had a free upgrade to the Executive Suite. The room was big and roomy, and decoration/furniture were new. The staff at the front desk were helpful and nice (especially Sofia and Nilza). The bed, pillow and comforter were comfortable. Good value for a 5-star hotel.

However, the housekeeping was done poorly. Used bottles of body lotions/shower gel from the previous occupant were not removed and left together with the new bottles. The so-called "aquarium" bathroom was not impressive at all, actually quite disappointing as it is not as good as what people described. I didn't dare to sit in the "bathtub" as I feel like sitting on the floor for a bath! Besides, there was nothing to hang the towels (there were only two hooks for big bath towel). The height of the sink was so much higher than the standard height.
