“Not worth it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011 via mobile

It is supposed to be 5 stars, but to me it is more like 3 stars. It is very fancy, too much dor me, but there are so many things not worth it. Service not very good. Breakfast too pricey, 20 euros. And the restaurant, not good. Took my wine before the bottle was empty, cold vegetables, compact dessert mousse, muscatel with ice even though I asked for without....
No, I am not happy with my stay. I will not return and I will not recommend.

“Lovely hotel strange decor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

Very nice hotel, luxurious bathroom, comfy bed. Close to most amenities. Travel is very cheap, good metro service and taxis. You can stand in the shower and be watched by someone in bed as there was a glass screen into the bedroom! However, there was a blind to pull down if you're feeling shy. Breakfast was excellent too. Slightly different choices each day. Good value for money.

“Good value and friendly staff, but poor housekeeping”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2011

We booked through Splendia and had a free upgrade to the Executive Suite. The room was big and roomy, and decoration/furniture were new. The staff at the front desk were helpful and nice (especially Sofia and Nilza). The bed, pillow and comforter were comfortable. Good value for a 5-star hotel.

However, the housekeeping was done poorly. Used bottles of body lotions/shower gel from the previous occupant were not removed and left together with the new bottles. The so-called "aquarium" bathroom was not impressive at all, actually quite disappointing as it is not as good as what people described. I didn't dare to sit in the "bathtub" as I feel like sitting on the floor for a bath! Besides, there was nothing to hang the towels (there were only two hooks for big bath towel). The height of the sink was so much higher than the standard height.

“Not 5 star choose Corinthia instead”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2011 via mobile

We booked a different hotel but were transferred here due to over booking. The surly receptionist told us the room wasn't ready and that we would have to wait five hours to check in without so much as a sorry let alone a "feel free to use the facilities in the meantime". The rooms are and well equipped but the finish is actually quite cheap (cupboard doors scrap the floor as are too long etc). Bathroom impressive.
Breakfast good but poor service (took 10 mins to bring coffee, no bowls for cereal two mornings in a row).
The spa is appalling as is the "pool". You have to take three lifts from your room to get to the pool and it's freezing (even when it was 30 degrees outside) plus there's no shade and only two functioning umbrellas. No poolside drinks service. If you want a good spa hotel in Lisbon head to the Corinthia.

“Nice, clean rooms a cab ride away from city center”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 March 2011

I went to Lisbon with a group of girlfriends in March and one friend and I split a room at the VIP Grand Lisboa. We picked it because it was affordable at ~$100 a night and in the end, a very good bargain for the money.

The location is residential, and there isn't a lot going on in the neighborhood but there are a few cafes and pharmacies to get basics. In order to get down to Rossio Square and the thick of the old city, you can either i) walk 10 minutes to a metro stop at Campo Pequeno, change at Marquis de Pombal and then get off at Restauradores OR 1) take a 5 euro cab ride downtown. It was pretty easy and the distance manageable.

The room itself was nice, in basic white/dark wood decor, very clean and very quiet with a large closet to help us keep our things separate. The bed was pretty comfortable- we got twin beds that were on a single frame but basically two mattresses divided by a separator. Internet ~3 euros per hour which was all we needed; think you can also get 24 no consecutive hours worth for 10-15 euros? Service pretty good- they sent up a converter for us to use and seemed to be good with providing directions, telling you where to find cabs etc.

The bathroom was just okay; not enough space to store all of our toiletries on the sink and the sink looked like a large wooden bowl, which threw me off somewhat. The rain shower was fantastic though. You can tell they cater primarily to business travelers by the ambiance and also because the breakfast was 50 euros!

All in all, a great hotel for value, comfort and cleanliness, though if you are planning a jam packed tourist itinerary, you may be better off staying closer to Avenida de Liberdade and the rest of downtown.
