Residencial Italia Hotel is a small hotel in a rather quiet neighbourhood somewhat out of the city centre. The next bus stop is about five minutes away, to the next metro stations (São Sebastião (blue line) and Campo Pequeno (yellow line)) it takes about the same time, which give excellent connections to both the airport (appr. 30min) and the city centre (appr. 15min) . In its surroundings there are several small shops, restaurants, cafés, and supermarkets so that you do not need to go to the city centre if you do not want to.
The whole hotel seems to have been renovated within the last few years, everything is fresh and very clean. The rooms are small, basic, but very functional and the furniture in a good quality. Depending on the purpose of your trip, the "inner" rooms of the hotel, of which there are four on each floor, might be a negative point. My room e.g. had its window to a larger ventilation shaft only, which made it very dark. Since I was out quite early in the morning and came back rather late at night this was not a problem for me. If you plan to stay somewhat longer in your room during daytime, it might be a good idea to specifically ask for one of the rooms facing the very large and nice backyard or the street.
In the price included was a rich breakfast buffet consisting of cornflakes, chokoflakes, milk, coffee, tea, juices, different breads and rolls, cheese, goat cheese, ham, different kinds of jam, and fruits, which was diligently refilled.
One distinguishing characteristic was the uniformly friendly and helpful staff, who made you feel very welcome.
