Lisboa has become our favourite citytrip destination, after we've been a number of times to Barcelona. To escape the dark days at the end of the year we decided to fly to Lisboa.
The Evidencia Astoria Creative Hotel came with a package deal my wife found, the deal included airline tickets and was absolutely affordable. Ofcourse we were warned by the reviews on Tripadvisor but it did not scare us.
Let's be serious the roomrate compared to the minus' should hold one from complaining.
The good stuff, extremely good bed and good choice breakfast buffet plus friendly staff, free wifi, and at very short walking from Pombal Square, the metro takes you from there in no time to the old centre, and many bus-lines stop on or about the square, including the airport bus.
Rather less important things were not ok, there was no heating in the bathroom, no safe at the room, limited storage capacity (we kept some items in our suitcase) a lamp in the room did not work and after we asked reception it still didn't (must have been more than the bulb).
After we talked to reception a broken lightbulk was replaced just outside our room, but electricity in Portugal must be extremely expensive because it was overall a dark place this hotel. We see no reason why we should not go back to this hotel. And dear reader again Lisboa is a great place to stay. We were lucky too, at the Corte Ingles the winter sales had started with discounts upto 60% on top of that foreigners can get a day-pass at the infopoint in the shop which entitles you to another 10% discount of all purchases. We nearly had to buy an extra suitcase :) The number of restaurants in Lisboa is very high we enjoyed a wonderfull Old to New at www.restaurante-olivier.com while the day before we had a perfect dinner at www.restaurante560.com Lisboa here we come (again).

Good:
The hotel design - very cool and modern
The outside facade - very old and restored
The rooms (we had 2) - well spaced, clean design
The breakfast - included and very big

Bad:
Bathroom size was relatively small
Some of the rooms face the back of the neighboring building giving a view of a wall or air conditioners at near zero distance - quite claustrophobic if you need a window (and I did)
Although we asked in advance, we could not check in early as the hotel was fully booked
We had to "fend for ourselves" at breakfast to get a clean table (or clear one), to get utensils etc. There is a definite breakfast rush and not enough staff to handle it
Staff at front desk were helpful but not enough so we had to wait for each question
There is an elevator but 1) it is very slow 2) you need to either climb or descend half a floor to reach it. Make a note if this is a problem - about 8 steps.
Very dark corridors. Light up only on action but you start out in darkness and the lighting is low.

Very cool hotel, in a great location, less than a block from the Metro. Our cheap, 70 Euro, room was 3 rooms--bedroom, extra single bedroom, and a sun room overlooking a wooded park (at the back, north end, of the hotel). But: the walls are thin. We were kept awake one night by people above us shouting at each other and stomping on the floor. Another night, a tv from a room next door kept us from thinking, much less sleeping. The breakfast is great, lots of choices, delicious coffee; the bar and bartender are fun an enjoyable. But the thin walls mean that we will never stay here again.

Spent 3 nights in this hotel. I loved the decor; very retro although the overall look was dark. Our triple room was spacious, clean, facing front of hotel therefore lots of traffic noise. Also woken by other guests early in the morning! Location was great, around the corner from stop no 1 on the Open Top sightseeing bus. Breakfast was nice enough but they kept running out of everything from hot water, glasses, cutlery, food. To be fair they kept the stuff coming although you had to wait for it. The layout of the breakfast bar was useless and it was manic at times getting around it. Overall not a bad place to stay for few nights but little noisey to be there for much longer.
