“Overlooking Old Lisbon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

A beautiful boutique hotel nestled on the hill behind the Castelo. Our suite was opening onto a large terrace with two day beds and fantastic views of the nearby churches.
No noise as the street is not opened to traffic. Only taxis and residents can travel around.
Large bedroom with a well appointed bathroom.
Nice buffet for breakfast, a very welcoming staff and very helpful as well.
Great way to explore Lisbon on foot although the climb back can be a bit tedious.
A lot of restaurants and cafes around to keep you entertained at night.

Room Tip: Ask for a suite on the third floor which has a terrace. Other rooms have only balconies

“Excellent choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

Great location in the heart of the old town, very near the castle. It`s a nicely renovated old building and the interior has obviously been desigend with flair even if some of the furniture looks rather nicer on superficial inspection than it actually is.
Check-in and check out were good.
Room was very large, very clean.En-suite bathroom a reasonable size.Plenty of toiletries and towels
.Secure car parking,at a charge, but very secure. Not easy to find by car.I managed it on a Sunday, best time to try because on a busy weekday it`d be tough especially with sat-nav being fooled by various changing one way streets .
Room safe,mini-bar,tv a few English language news channels. No tea or coffee making facilities of course.
Breakfast was fine. Not a great setting because it`s basically in reception which also doubles as a bar area at night.
Staffing a slight problem--there`s not enough! We found for example the barmaid having to double up as a cook so waited in the bar 10 mins to be served a drink while she cooked a small meal for another guest. Not her fault but slightly irritating when the reception clerk was sitting 5 yards away at his reception desk at 10.30 pm when no-one needed to use him ,no-one arrived and the phone didn`t ring!Maybe the newspaper he was reading was especially engrossing!

Quite an expensive hotel for what you actually get but you pay so much because of the location and the fact this is Lisbon. If you want the shopping area of Lisbon however this hotel is a bit of a treck so you need to be sure it`s the old town and castle you want to see otherwise there are good hotels near the shops and that`s where most of the restaurant choice was --although there are a few decent ones near this hotel too.

“Olissippo Castelo -The Best in Town!”

Olissippo Castelo Hotel, Rua Costa do Castelo, 126, Lisbon 1100-179, Portugal.

Is the best hotel in Lisboa for sure! I had pre booked 9 nights and flight and a hotel from Norway but i switched to Olissippo Castelo Hotel in the pittorescue Alfama. A bautiful and a special part of Lisbon. I have been here twice before and honest to say it would be my best hotel experience total! Right to be avarded "travelers choice 2011". When i arrived i was upgraded from a kindy lady to a bautiful room with a big speciaus terrace overlooking the bautiful old town of Alfama. The staff was so varm and welcoming, all from the reception, to the bar, to the room service, laundry and the staff in general. I have been so grateful and it's a 5* hotel for a 4* price - with something extra. Just down the street it's a genuine local resturant who also serve brilliant food, drinks and everything you can wish for. Just take a stroll trought the streets and this is the genuine Portugal. A short walk or a cheap taxi (4-5 EUR) drive to down town, the night life - or anything you could wish for. So far it's have been mine best hotel experience, food, interesting people and the best part of town. You never forget this hotel, and the memories! Excellent value, very nice genuine staff and a perfect location.

I'm so happy to recommend and pleased bautiful hotel! and will for sure come back anytime!

My Best wishes!
Mr Norwegian

“Outstanding- everything as promised”

I stay in a lot of hotels and this one is really special. Yes, it's hilly but the view out of the superior rooms is truly special. Staff was very accommodating including taking care of our luggage after we checked out but ahead of our cruise sailing.
Rooms are large and the bathroom was excellent.
If you are looking for a special place, I'd stay here.
By the way, I'm not sure why it is called an inn!

Room Tip: Take the view; it is worth the extra euros

“Very comfortable stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

Very nice four star hotel in a lovely location in the old part of Lisbon. Although it is hilly with cobbled streets and you wouldn't want to be tottering around in high heels, the walk to town is an easy 15 min down hill and a slightly longer, but not overly taxing if your are of average fitness, back on a gradual uphill. However the tram stop is only a couple of mins away if you prefer not to walk. It is very quiet in Alfama so a peaceful night is pretty much guaranteed, however there are plenty of low key places to eat within a very short distance of the hotel. It is much livlier though in the daytime than the evening so you really need to head in to the centre of town if you want bars a bit more atmosphere.

We were very pleased with our hotel room which was traditionally furnished and very spacious with a great outside terrace and marble bathroom with a shower with a decent spray. Tasty biscuits and a small bottle of port were waiting our arrival which was a nice touch. As it is a small hotel the service was personal, prompt and very friendly. The breakfast was also of a good quality with fresh fruit, juices, a range of continental items including, muffins, pastries and cold cuts. There was also scrambled egg, bacon and suasage but it tended to be a bit tepid.

There were only two things we didn't like: The beds were a bit old with sagging mattresses and there is no separate breakfast room, it's set up in the lobby which felt rather strange and the hot water for tea/coffee was never hot.

Overall we had a very enjoyable stay and were blessed with wonderful weather - much hotter than we anticipated for October - around 28 degreees, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Superiors rooms with terrace are worth the little bit extra
