“Horrible reception, creepy atmosphere”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2010

The reception, hidden in a dark place behind the lift, hosts the worst receptionist I have ever found in a hotel: no greetings, no smile, almost no words, in any language. Creepy atmosphere. The first room we were assigned had a not properly closing window and therefore it was really noise (being directly above a very busy street). We asked for a different one but it was worse (the window this time was directly on three air conditioning engines), so we decided to stay in the first room. After a sleepless night, we went to the reception again and were given a different one. Well, this time it was OK, but without the usual thick curtains, so in the early morning we were waken up by the sunlight... Well, in few words, the guy at the reception was inefficient and unfriendly. Rooms in genenal were not too dirty but very dusty, old and not well maintained.
There are some positive points (not very expensive, perfectly located, acceptable breakfast). But we really would not recommend it.

“Reasonably priced but didn't feel 'inviting'”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2010

We were transferred to this hotel from their sister hotel after a booking mix-up. Our room was on the 7th floor - the decent view (with a small balcony) was probably the best thing about it, although there could be a bit of noise from the traffic outside at certain times of the day.

The hotel itself is just across from the Parque Metro station and round the corner from the bus stop (route 44 into the city and also handy for Aerobus to the airport - N.B. we found that our unexpired Yellow Tour bus ticket was also valid on that airport service!).

Many aspects of the room could reasonably be summed up as 'small' and 'tired': bed (mattresses need replacing), wardrobe (too small), bathroom (tiny shower unit; bottom of curtain had some mould and you could forget showering with a partner!), safe (tiny, but didn't matter as it had no locking mechanism anyway!), entrance area (lighting was missing - just a wire hanging from the ceiling), carpet (needs shampooing and cleaning around the edges), no fridge.

Breakfast rather basic and the same every day. Available beverages were coffee/orange juice or sachets of chocolate drink powder (you could also take milk from the large jug or ask for a pot of boiling water). For food, on offer were cornflakes, brioche-style bread rolls (+ variety of preserves), ordinary white bread rolls, eggs (usually either scambled or hard boiled), cold ham/cheese slices/salami, and a variety of yoghurts.

We have no reference point so perhaps altogether this was a pretty good deal compared to other hotels in Lisbon, but compared to the similarly priced Porto hotel we travelled to it from, it came a poor second.

All in all, it's difficult to recommend it as it failed to impress on too many fronts (especially coming from Porto), but as I say we have no firm reference point within Lisbon.

Incidentally, the young Brazilian porter was very friendly. Having travelled all the way to Portugal to work and study, we couldn't help but feel slightly sorry for him being all alone and so far from home whilst still probably only a teenager, so if you do stay at the hotel be nice to him!

“Good deal for the payed price!”

We stayed in room 216 (me, my sister and a friend of mine). Room was nice but when we entered there was a mold smell. That was the only thing I did not like at this hotel. I have no clue if all the rooms are the same but try do not take room 216( it's a triple one) Bathroom is large and nice. Staff is friendly and helps us in any information we needed. Location is perfect, just across Parque Metro station.Anyway, Lisbon is an excelent destination. If you get the ocasion to see it don't miss it, you wont regret.

“A little tired but adequate as a base for exploring Lisbon”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2009

I stayed in room 206 on the second floor of the Residencial Horizonte for 3 nights in June 2009 on a city break with a friend.

The twin room we stayed in was small, with the décor a little old-fashioned and tired. Having said that, the beds were comfortable and the towels and bed linen were changed daily. The television in the room had a couple of English speaking channels including BBC News. The room had a safe which was free to use by getting a key from the hotel reception. The hotel was very quiet at night and I didn’t hear any of the other guests or outside noise.

The hotel’s location is very good, with the city and all the main tourist sites within easy reach via the Metro; ‘Parque’ Metro station is just opposite the hotel. If you fancy a walk, a stroll into the city from the hotel takes around 20 minutes.

Breakfast was served on the first floor of the hotel and there was a basic selection of continental breakfast items to eat such as meats, cheese, bread, yoghurts and eggs, where the type varied each day between scrambled and boiled. The choice to drink was very limited between coffee and fruit juices with no choice of teas. Overall, the breakfast at the hotel was disappointing.

To conclude, the Residencial Horizonte is a good value hotel which met our needs adequately and which is ideally located to explore the city.

“Small but clean, just opposite metro for city centre”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 April 2009

The room was small but clean even though they'd obviously had problems with a water leak.
Ask for tea or hot water (if you've got your own tea bags) at breakfast otherwise it's just coffee or chocolate. The staff were very friendly, but my partner's Portuguese so this helps.
The bed was very small for two, my partner was squashed against the wall and I hung on to the edge to stop falling out.
The Hotel is well situated, just opposite the metro and only 20 mins stroll down to the centre, but I wouldn't recommend walking back.
Functional, but not if you want a romantic weekend.
