Stayed there in January for a few nights weekend romantic getaway and really enjoyed the whole experience at Solar do Castelo. The room was clean and comfortable and the place is well-decorated. Service was always friendly and helpful, and their courteous staff spoke French and English with us, answered all our questions about trains, transportation, getting to Belem, dining in the Alfama, etc. The breakfast buffet was the best we've experienced at any hotel. Complimentary porto in the rooms was a nice touch. Peacocks from the castle were hanging out on the wall facing the hotel when were there and there plenty of good restaurants and small streets to wander within walking distance. It was a great decision to pick this place. A big "obrigado" (Thank you) to all the staff. Highly recommended.

Next to the old castle, for us a good location. But for people who are not used to walking on cobblestones and hilly areas, don't stay here.
The rooms were fine, clean, good beds. We thought it was very nice to stay in the old part of town. Peacocks from the castle were nice to look at. They don't make any noise in the morning.
Overall a good stay!!!

Stayed there at the end of September over a weekend to celebrate wedding anniversary.
Very charming place indeed, not easy access as in front of the castle, but worth the effort and some taxis do know how to get to the front. The rooms are small but very stylish and comfortable, with bathrooms completely renovated.
Liked the cosy atmosphere of the tiny streets, feeling so close to local people when windows were opened.The staff is really friendly and helpful as well.
Overall not a cheap place for Portuguese standards but definitely worth it.

My husband and I stayed here in November. It is just the kind of hotel we love- small, in a local neighborhood and quiet. There are only 20 rooms and ours was just perfect. One of the best internet connections we had on our whole trip. Walking out the door you are immediately in a neighborhhod with homes and small restaurants. We loved the hotel. The only down side was how far it was from the old shopping area of town ( a 15 minute steep walk up or down hill). Be prepared to walk up and down hills but that is Lisbon.
