I stayed at the VIP Executive Villa Rica at the end of November for 6 nights for a conference at Lisbon University. The hotel was in an ideal location for me as it was only ten minutes' walk to the University and ten minutes' walk to Campo Pequeno bullring. I was really impressed with the quality of the room - the beds were made everyday and changed often, and everything was kept spotlessly clean. The room facilities are excellent, with free ethernet internet access (bring your own cable), mini bar, television, hairdryer and toiletries. The check-in and check-out process was incredibly quick and easy. I also recommend the hotel cafe - I ate there one evening and it was very nice. All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

My company uses this hotel on a regular basis when travelling to Lisbon. This is where we book the stay of our customers and our CEO coming from Toronto.
The hotel is all new and very good looking. The rooms are not big but have an OK size.
Breakfast is good and staff is friendly. Nice bar near the lounge with a piano player, good place for a quick meeting or a relaxing drink. The price is very very good. We have stayed there for 82€ per night during the summer and 56€ per night during the winter.
These are corporate rates, usual rates are between 100 and 150€ per night.
The subway station in 2 min away walking and is right in the center of Lisbon.

The hotel is close to the underground, about 500 metres, so near any place that you want to see or be. It is not a modern hotel, but it is a very nice place to stay. It is not so expensive as others, the rooms are spacious with good bathroom, and very quite. The breakfast is not excelent but not so bad. The hotel has more than one restaurant, with diferent prices. We eat there once and the food was good. We, me and my daughter, used the pool and we spent a great time swimming. So, forget the bad reviews! Great choice to stay in Lisbon.

I used to love the Villa Rica. I've stayed there seven nights in all and recommended it to friends on several occasions. It used to be the sort of hotel where the staff couldn't do enough for you and where everything was just so.
Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. Our curtains didn't meet in the middle so we woke up with the sun. Nobody answered when we phoned reception. There was no room service menu in the room - I had to go down to reception and pick it up myself. Some of the staff on reception were distinctly offhand, verging on rude; one looked a complete mess. Worse than all this, there was a bit of air of neglect about the place: the hotel folder in our room contained a solitary sheet of creased, grubby headed notepaper, for example. A few repairs should have been done and hadn't been - when we wanted to pay by card, it wasn't possible (we had to pay cash for breakfast. I found being billed for breakfast on the spot a little odd - did they think we were going to do a runner?) When we wanted to use the internet only one terminal was avaiable because the other was broken. When we thought about going to the fitness centre we found it was no longer in operation. When we wanted to use the lift we had to wait, in one case for over 10 minutes, because only one lift was in working, and most of the time it was full to bursting.
I understand the hotel has been taken over by an international group - and the results are not good. I don't think the Villa Rica as it stands is any longer a 4 star hotel.
