Depending on your reasons for going to Lisbon, you may get what you want, but firstly however, you need to find somewhere to stay. Unfortunately, one of my colleagues who shall remain nameless booked our hotel without consulting TripAdvisor first! I can honestly say that this is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Location: Well, its in Lisbon. What guides do not all mention is that it is 1mile or so from the main parts of the town (Bairro Alto, Chiado and Baxia) is that it is on top of the highest hill in the surrounding area, making a walk into the city a particularly sweaty experience in the summer. However, on the plus side, cabs very cheap, and readily available. On this point, all cabs are MAX 4-seater, and are all variants of Mercedes C-Class (Standard Euro Cab), but predominantly circa 1985, with about 1Million miles on the clock. We had a full on rear-ender in one, at about 4am in the morning, and were forced out in the middle of nowhere en-route to hotel, and most of the others had bits missing or fell off (window winder, which came off in my hand for example) - WEAR SEATBELTS!!. So what about the physical accommodation? Do not know how this place managed 3.5 stars. More like a hostel than a hotel. Initial impression of Lobbey conveyed a different picture to the rest of the hotel - do not be fooled by this in photos you may see. Once past the facade, you will find grubby carpets and stains in the rooms on the beds and general delapidation throughout. The pool is on the 1st floor (!?!) and basically a large paddling pool, on top of a 6ft high wood deck surround - avoid unless you are desparate, or your shower doesnt work - which is likely. To give you an idea of the bathrooms - in ours, the taps came off in your hand, hairdryer didnt work, air pumps/ventilators didnt work, well at least it had running water. In addition, the place seemed under-staffed (had to wait on average over 10mins to get to speak to reception) and the level of clenliness way below par. Example - breakfast (bit of a scrum for the mini frankfurters), we sat at same table 2 days running, and was clear that they hadnt changed the cloth, as there were stains from previous day (I know because it was an unfortunate accident one of our party had with an Orange Juice). Overall then, pretty poor and would advise spending a few quid more on a better class hotel, nearer the main parts of the City.
