“Very good for a family stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

We've just returned from Lisboa, indulging in many things about Portugal which has become a country we love.

The Hotel Amazonia is a curious place, faded, yet charming. You'll hardly find a better breakfast anywhere in Portugal unless you pay heaps more for it, with a superb buffet of some of the world's finest orange and pineapple, and plenty to choose from for every member of the family.

The staff were uniformly friendly, and when there was meat in the scrambled eggs, made two orders, fresh, for the vegetarians in our clan. The cleaning staff were first-rate. We've never worked with better.

One bad thing: the internet is far too expensive, and despite claims at the desk one could click in and out of it, saving the 24-hour time in order to extend it across the whole of the stay, this proved false. A terrible deal, that.

We booked as part of a Neckarmann package from Brussels. Rooms seemed pricey for one-off reservations at the standard rate.

We walked from the hotel to the center of the city, and everywhere else we wanted to go. Metro connections, pleasant squares, and food shopping are all within easy reach.

We'd return.....

“Three stars is clearly overrated”

Cannot really find anything good to say about this hotel... Location was ok, not excellent... Price was really not cheap compared to quality... First of all, it took almost half an hour to check in, only one person at checkin and many people waiting. Internet is not free, it is expensive. Room was not cleaned properly, a lot of junk under the bed, classic! And the balcony door was broken, not possible to lock it - and my room was in 2nd floor pretty easily accessible from the yard. Very old and worn rooms overall, and one of the legs of the bed was broken so the bed was tilted to other side... Really bad experience, cannot recommend even if it is a bit cheaper.

Not very high quality rooms, very expensive internet, breakfast not included, but nice enough venue. If your just looking for a cheap, and ok place to stay this not bad. But dont go if youre usually choosy.

“Cheap and cheerful”

We booked this hotel and the strength of the price! We don't spend much time in the hotel when on holiday, all we really need is somewhere to sleep and wash but we'd prefer a private bathroom if possible, so I always scour the internet looking for the cheapest hotels rather than hostels.

The hotel is situated in a quiet part of Lisbon, about five minutes walk from the Rato metro station, which means it's easy to get straight into the centre pretty quickly. There is a lovely shaded square at the end of the street where we went in the morning for croissants and coffee - much cheaper than at the hotel, which I think was 8 Euros for breakfast.

The room itself was okay, although we did need to leave the air conditioning on all day to ensure a good night's sleep - maybe that says more about our English climate than the room though! The bathroom was showing signs of age (the odd cracked tile etc.) but was clean enough.

I must say that the service was very good. I sent them an email just a couple of days before arriving to ask if we could have a balcony room and they got back to me very quickly and confirmed that we had one. They were also happy to store our luggage when we arrived until our room was ready. They were also happy to call us a taxi upon checking out.

Overall, I'd be happy to return.

“Not comming back..”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011 via mobile

Very depressing rooms with very noisy aircon .. that you cannot leave on when you leave the room. Very bad standard on toilets ... Had to do plummer work to flush...and mold in the bath. Breakfast ... Well the bread was good. All in all a very overselling hotel not even in a very atractive area!
