We've just returned from Lisboa, indulging in many things about Portugal which has become a country we love.
The Hotel Amazonia is a curious place, faded, yet charming. You'll hardly find a better breakfast anywhere in Portugal unless you pay heaps more for it, with a superb buffet of some of the world's finest orange and pineapple, and plenty to choose from for every member of the family.
The staff were uniformly friendly, and when there was meat in the scrambled eggs, made two orders, fresh, for the vegetarians in our clan. The cleaning staff were first-rate. We've never worked with better.
One bad thing: the internet is far too expensive, and despite claims at the desk one could click in and out of it, saving the 24-hour time in order to extend it across the whole of the stay, this proved false. A terrible deal, that.
We booked as part of a Neckarmann package from Brussels. Rooms seemed pricey for one-off reservations at the standard rate.
We walked from the hotel to the center of the city, and everywhere else we wanted to go. Metro connections, pleasant squares, and food shopping are all within easy reach.
We'd return.....
