“Good quality/price ratio - location excellent!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

spent a long weekend with my boyfriend in Lisbon and stayed at Alegria. Quite small hotel with a "familiy feeling" to it. Rooms were very cute, a bit "rustique" but cute... felt very personal and more like someone's guest room than a hotel room.
some will say "by night it is a bit loud from the street", because you are at the "border" of the "night area" in the "old city", but we wanted that, so it didn't bother us. No elevator (we didn't care though). we were there in December, and in the night it got really COLD, we thought the air condition device was just for... cooling and we couldn't get it to heat the room. however, it DEOS work, the second day we asked and got help,,,, so it was basically not their fault.
Very sweet and helpful staff! it's very central, we walked everywhere, and around the corner is the "cable car", very cute :)
Beds comfortable (standard), bathrooms clean and nice (modern), 24h-reception and they also let us stor our luggage for free the day of check-out.
I would recommend anyone this hotel, especially as i think it is very good for the rate. If you are looking for modern, standard hotel rooms, this might not be your thing, but we really liked the "guest house touch" to it and felt we were really lucky with our choice!

Room Tip: If you are sensitive to noise, ask for a room NOT facing the street leading to the "old quartie...

“Clean and simple right in the heart of Lisbon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

We spent 3 nights at this hotel. Its a clean and simple hotel and what you would expect for the price you pay. The location is perfect. Its right in the heart of Lisbon a few steps away from Avendida Liberdade. A short walk will get you to the Aerobus pickup/drop off, to the metro and the station. We didn't do breakfast at the hotel but breakfast is available for EUR5. The spread of cereals, breads and jams, etc looked more than substantial.
The floors of the hotel are wooden, the walls very thin so you would be able to hear your neighbour coming and going. We spent so little time at the hotel, we literally slept and showered, leaving at 08h00 and coming back after 23h00, it did not bother us. There are lots of restaurants within walking distance to choose from. Food in Lisbon wasn't that great but the best meal we had was in a little family restaurant around the corner from the hotel (left and left again if you come out the front door). Staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay there again on my next visit to Lisbon.

“Cheap basic accomodation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2011

We stayed here 17/2/11,we had booked for 3 nights but left after the first night.
It wasn't what I really expected even for what we would call a guest house in the UK. The room was really tiny for a double room.it was Febuary and the heating was poor we also spotted some bugs in the bedding.

“Not as good as it looks”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2010

Good points:
Location — Just off the main avenue, public transport and shops at hand, nice walk to main squares and Baixa. Lovely little park just outside the door.
Service — the people at the desk smiled and might have been helpful if we had asked them to be.
It was clean, though our rooms hadn't been aired for a long time.
Bad points:
Tiny rooms. No door handle, Mattresses filled with firewood. The ground-floor room was damp with mouldy walls and smelling of saltpetre.
We looked at the breakfast and decided we'd do better at any of the nearby pastry shops.
Tips:
If you must stay there, choose an upper-floor room.
For 3 or 4 people taxis are cheaper than public transport for city trips.

“Good location - that's about it!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2010

Great location and our rooms were very clean. However, lots of things didn't work and even when we told the staff, they were not fixed. Our shower could not be fixed to the wall - so just a hand shower. One light didn't work - despite them handing me a new lightbulb (!) it still didn't and the lighting was very poor in the room. The worst thing was the beds. They were a good size but so hard that sleep was virtually impossible. The WiFi didn't work - and nor did the hotel's computer. There were no safes in the room and when I gave them my laptop to look after they just left it on the side under the bar in the breakfast/bar area. One of our rooms had two windows - but only one curtain per window so the streetlights shone in all night. We didn't have breakfast so I can't comment. It's a shame, really as if they spent just a small amount of money putting things right this could be a gem.
