“Pleasantly suprised”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2009

Both the outside of the hotel and the hotel lobby, which is dark, are not attractive. However I was very pleased with the room which was spacious and very clean. The bathroom was clean and well equipped. The breafast was very adequate and the front desk I found very obliging - they let me into my room early in the morning although I had only requested to drop my luggage off.

“Possibly the worst experience of my life”

I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. Although the hotel seemed reasonably nice upon entering it be warned, first impressions can be deceiving! The staff were not only rude but highly offensive. The room looked nice - quite spacious, nice old style layout and the bathroom was a decent size. What I later found out was that the hotel was situated right on top of the underground! Every 5-10 minutes the room would vibrate, giving the impression the ceiling was about to cave in! Lisbon is one of my favourite cities and I have been many times - This trip was my only unpleasent experience and if it were my first visit then I would never return.

  • Disliked — The staff and the underground trainline that ran under the hotel

“not as bad as all that !”

I didn't find the hotel that bad at all -- yes, it was on a side street -- that at night had some interesting characters roaming around but it was 60E a night -- clean - the staff were friendly, the bathroom was big -- the breakfast was good and it was so close to everything -- If I stayed there again I would ask for a room at the back of the hotel, rather than on the street front because of those interesting characters at night -- cheers! Lisbon was absolutely wonderful

“Not so good”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2006

Were sent to that hotel when the hotel we originally booked was overbooked.

The hotel is close to the subway, bus and tram lines and very close to the Baixa (the main shopping and restaurant area in Lisbon) and there lies the problem. You hear and feel a deep rumble every time a subway train runs underneath the hotel (roughly every 10 mins between 6h00 am and 1h00 am). The corner where the hotel is located also seems to be a rallying point for prostitutes and the usual crowd they attract.

The hotel is otherwise OK. It is nicely decorated with blue Portugese tiles and nice furniture. Our room was spacious (by European standards), the bathroom was quite good (spacious, clean, with nice marble tiles, bath/shower, bidet, toilet and large sink.). Lots of hot water and very good water pressure (not so common in Europe.) The breakfast (included, buffet style) is also decent, although it never changes (scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, cheese, bread, coffee, juice, cereals).

We were sent there by another hotel for quite a reasonable price, but I would not pay 60E/night or more to stay there. You can easily find better.

  • Liked — clean, spacious, nicely decorated, good bathroom
  • Disliked — subway creating minor earthquake every 10 minutes during the day

“Run as fast as you can”

Probably the worst hotel in Lisbon. Located in one of the city’s worst streets, full of prostitutes, beggars and drug addicts. In this hideous and really overpriced hotel, you can enjoy a small earthquake every 2 minutes. The rooms quiver and tremble everytime a metro train passes in Rossio. Stay (very very far) away.
