We stayed in the Mercure Liboa for three nights. We got there by taking aerobus number three from the airport. It stopped right outside.
Although we arrived very early, the extremely friendly and helpful receptionist let us check in right away. She also gave us maps and lots of information about Lisbon without being asked. Her friendliness gave us a great impression of the hotel right from the start.
Our room was on the 9th floor. We had a good view over Lisbon's viaduct on the way up in the lift. The hotel's indoor swimming pool was also on the 9th floor. I think it was open from 9am to 9pm. We used it daily. Ask in reception for towels. The water was a bit cold.
Our room was very clean and very comfortable. The bed was extremely comfy and the hotel was quiet at night, so we slept very well. We had lots of storage space, TV, in-room safe. The fridge is actually a minibar where all the bottles are on sensors, move anything you pay for it. If ,like us, you don't normally pay extortionate prices for mini-bar drinks then this system really negates the point of having a fridge.
We paid 9 Euros to have breakfast in the hotel each morning. The cold selection of foods was very good. Delicious fresh breads, Portuguese egg tarts, cheese, cold meat, cereal, juice, fruit. However, the hot selection bacon, beans, scrambled eggs and tomatoes was invariably freezing. No not even lukewarm, freezing. Also coffee was brought to the table and we only got one cup each. I got more when I asked, but don't always want to have to ask for more. It should be offered.
The hotel provided free wifi and we could print our boarding passes off for our next flight. We had a drink in the hotel bar which was fine. The restaurant was shut over the Christmas period.
We had intended to take the airport bus back to the airport but discovered it did not start running till 8am so we got the hotel to get us a taxi. Once again the staff were most helpful. I would stay here again because the staff were so nice and the room was clean and comfortable. The location is not great. It is in the financial district, though this does mean it is nice and quiet at night. The zoo underground station is 5 minutes walk from the hotel, so you can get into town easily. The metro is very straightforward to use and you do not even need to change line to get into the city centre.
