“Awful experience due to the staff and rooms”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2011

This is my first TripAdvisor review and I had to join just to leave a review for this hotel. It's a very nice hotel in a great location. You can see much of Lisbon and get around very well from it. However, I was really disappointed in the rooms. Our room was stifling HOT. I went to bed sweating and woke up sweating. It took multiple requests for a technician to come to the room and he told us to turn the air conditioning on. Why didn't I think of that, it's only January!! I certainly didn't want to spend much time there, it was getting to feel like a sauna. We opened the windows, but because of the hotel's central location, it was very noisy at night. Why were we being punished with a poor night's sleep for choosing this hotel? I know others on our hall had to have felt it, it was like a blast of heat getting off the elevator. Furthermore, the staff was often curt and unfriendly. There was often one person on the front desk attending to a dozen people. "Wait a minute, I am very busy working by myself." Then hire another person to attend to 11 other people! On New Year's Day, it is very difficult in Portugal to do or see anything or eat in restaurants. Understandable. However, our time is limited in Portugal, we REALLY want to eat in a Portuguese restaurant. "Eat downstairs in our hotel restaurant with the rest of the guests." Shouldn't you, as a hotel employee, know of SOME place that's open on a holiday, and recommend it with a smile, not a dismissive to eat with the rest of the guests in your restaurant that is not complimentary? I almost lost my temper with this staff multiple times regarding the heat in the room and the unhelpfulness and unfriendliness they exuded. While a very beautiful hotel with a great location in central Lisbon, I just can't recommend this hotel due to their attitudes and poor room conditions.

Dear customer,
First of all we would like to thank you for your review.
Concerning to it, we would like to apologize for the inconvenience felted because of the AC. We’ve already reported to our maintenance manager.
However, concerning the part of news’s year day, we like to inform you that normally everything is closed in Portugal like restaurants, shopping’s, bars and so on, as you can understand the news’s year day is not a regular or normal holiday.
Once again we apologize for all the inconveniences and we hope to see you once again in HF Hotels either in LISBON or OPORTO.

“Stay away from this awful hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2010 via mobile

We arrived early on Christmas day after a long flight, rebooked because of the weather in Northern Europe, to be told that although the hotel was not full, we could not check in until 2pm. Tried and hungry, this completely ruined our Christmas Day. This hotel is obviously not concerned with guest service! We will definitely not be returning.

Dear customer,
First of all we would like to thank you for your review.
Concerning to it, we would like to explain that the check-in moment can be anticipated if the reserved room is already cleaned, however it is normally after 14h.
Unfortunately we weren’t able to clean the reserved room earlier than 14h, however, in spite of the occupancy of the hotel we also would like to explain that we have different rooms like suites, terrace rooms or even business, with much more commodities and comfort.
At check-in moment, we might not have the reserved room, however we can have other kind of rooms, just need to ask for the availability and upgrade.
Hope to see you once again in HF Hotels either in LISBON or OPORTO.

“great location, nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2010

the location is definitely the best characteristic of this hotel: it is located just outside the metro, just one or two stops from the center of the city (which means you can go there by foot if you like).
The room we had was clean and large, nicely arranged, had twin beds although we did book a double room, but this happens quite often... The breakfast was great (great choice), staff was kind and helpful, and we did not have any problem during our stay. Would recommend it for the location and the room, simple and comfortable

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2010

The volcanic ash problem in late April caused us to change our travel plans and reschedule our visit to a week early, and the message hadn't got through, so we were kept waiting at the desk and then given a free upgrade. But there was a major problem in ourbathroom - a leak developed where the hot water pipe came through the wall above the bath, and the leak became worse and worse. We reported it immediately but nothing was done about it. The second day it was dreadful, with hot water running freely until the room was like a sauna with water dripping from the ceiling. the floor was flooded and we kept the door closed.

Eventually they agreed to move us to another room (another upgrade). But how seriously do they take their maintance if they didn't bother to deal with it when we first reported it?

Otherwise the hotel was quite good. The breakfast was fine, with good variety and quality of food. Parking was provided in the basement.

We discovered that the location was not good for us. it was close to the Metro but we never found any decent eating places nearby and the hotel only served breakfast. No food from the bar, so we had to go hunting for meals. The first night we found a group of extremely basic little cafes (the sort you wouldn't go to at home) but the one we chose served such disgusting food that we couldn't consider going back there. The next day being Sunday, it was the only one open! Fortunately we had bought some fruit and snacks during the day, so that became our meal in the hotel room.

So maybe the hotel is good for business people, but we wouldn't recommend it for tourists.

“Strange place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2010

This is a strange place, honestly. It's not definitely a 4 star hotel, probably a 2 1/2 would be more appropriate. The rooms are dirty and during my stay our room was cleaned twice at 6pm, forcing us to wait in the hall for 15 minutes at that time! Probably the good thing is breakfast - even the location is not really great, even if its a 30 minute walk to the city center (and not 10 minutes as they say).

Dear customer,
Our ranking for cleaning is 7.9 and localization is 9.0, in several sites who sell online, as you can check.
This hotel is located just outside the metro, just two stops from the center of the city.
It is also situated in front of the "Parque Eduardo VII" , that has wonderfull views over the city centre.
Also has a lot of restaurants/bars near by, walking over the "Avenida da Liberdade" that is the main street.
