“Good deal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2011

I booked this hotel over a online travel portal and got a fair deal. Portugal is anyway cheap nowadays, as it appears. The hotel gave me a double bedroom for single use. The room is spacious but a bit dark, if you do not open the curtains. The hotel staff provided me free internet access through their own infrastructure, as the vodefone access point (also free of charge) did not work. I could access the internet from my room on the second floor without problem. The breakfast (buffet style) is pretty standard, although the bagels were fresh and tasty. Unfortunately, the breakfast room is not able to handle solo travelers appropriately, so you need to share a table with others. This might become a problem, if the room is crowded with toruist groups. Such tourist groups seem to gather sometimes at the reception. Be aware.

Other reviews about the rooms are right. The windows do not close properly and it might become pretty cold through the night. You might consider turn on the heating. If the windows are open, it might also become a bit noisy. Overall, this was not a problem to me.

Check out the food court close to the hotel in El Corte Ingles. Also some serious sushi places are close by.

“Not much of a chance”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2010

While the food was good at dinner, there was no air conditioning and a very old musty smell everywhere. We had to leave the windows open to get some air so the noise was a problem. We were suppose to have breakfast but since our plane left early they said Continental breakfast only that consisted of hard rolls, coffee, juice butter and jam. No fruit or pastries.

“Excellent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

Six of us (three couples) stayed for three nights at the Real Parque, having selected it on basis of favourable views on this website – we weren’t disappointed. Tips – when you arrive at airport you can buy a three-day travel ticket for 12 Euro at Correio (Post Office on second floor) for Metro and public buses (but not Aerobus from airport). Then outside terminal (same place as Aerobus) catch no. 44 bus to city centre. Stop at Saldanha – hotel is five minute walk away. Alternatively, taxi is about 10 Euro from airport to hotel. Location of hotel is fine - relatively quiet but only 200 metres or so from Sao Sebastiao Metro station. Blue (Azul) line will take you to most of the popular areas. Metro is superb – beautifully clean and efficient. If you turn left out of hotel and walk 300m you’ll come to an entrance to station but for more convenient entrance turn right out of hotel door, then 90 degrees right at corner – walk down street, left at bottom, then right then left. With luck you’ll be facing metro and huge shop/mall called El Cortes Inglis (like a combination of Harrods and Debenhams). Alternatively you can walk downhill through nearby Parque Eduardo VII to city centre, enjoying good views of city. Rooms were very nice – clean, huge bed, nice bathroom with free toiletries, bath with over-bath shower, bidet etc. Air-con and windows which can be opened wide. Reception staff speak very good English, friendly and helpful – will give good travel advice. Free boiled sweets on desk a nice bonus. For some reason one of our rooms was minus a shower curtain – we mentioned it and by late afternoon one was in place. Breakfast was fine – plenty of choice of cereals, yoghurt, fresh fruit, pastries, cheese, cold meats, juices - cooked option consists of crispy bacon, various scrambled egg options, sausage (avoid the pink ones – not to British taste). Breakfast room spacious and pleasant. Contrary to some other reviews there are restaurants within easy reach of hotel –walk around couple of nearby blocks and you’ll find a Thai, Indian/Nepalese and a number of traditional restaurants. If you’re stuck there are plenty of eating places in El Cortes Inglis, including top floor restaurant. If you want to eat outside in pedestrian zones you’ll need to go to Baixa or Bairro Alto areas on Metro – but you’ll find that they’re more expensive. Hotel has cool and sophisticated reception area and very comfortable and quiet bar with subdued lighting. A visit to Sintra is a must – go to Restaurodes on Metro then go to adjoining Rossio mainline station. Return ticket is only 4 euro – automatic ticket machine – look for assistance from nearby officials. Trains leave approx every 30 minutes – more often at busy times. Journey is about 40 minutes – walk up to Moorish castle (30 mins) for fantastic views. Royal palace also well worth a visit. Wonderful place.
Would certainly recommend this hotel, as would my companions.

“Good value hotel”

My wife and I stayed in this hotel for four nights. In a quiet area but handy for the metro, department stores and yellow bus sightseeing tours. The hotel is clean with very helpful staff and a breakfast to satisfy most tastes. Close by were restaurants with local and Thai food. We would use this hotel again. Local tips: airport to hotel is 11 euros; taxis are very reasonable as is the metro; yellow bus tours 2-day pass is excellent value and stops just a few minutes from the hotel. If you have time visit Sintra

“No frills hotel, but comfortable to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

The hotel is away from the city centre but close to the tube station as well as to the huge shopping centre El Corte Ingles. No nice restos around though.
The room we stayed in was of average size, but clean and quiet till 7am. After that we got a 'wake up' by the noise the maids were making preparing their cleaning trollies (thin walls). Despite that it was a pleasant stay.
