If you are looking for a budget hotel, where you can get a good nights rest, in a nice area not far from the major attractions and metro, that is clean this is the place for you. If you are looking for new furniture, new fixtures, anything fancy and high tech amenities and where you have the main attractions at your doorstep, this is not the place for you.
We stayed for 2 nights during July for 48 euros a night with breakfast included and en suite bathrooms. This is a budget hotel so we knew more or less what to expect - no frills.
Upon arrival the guy at the front desk was really great and helpful. And later on when we asked for some recommendations he was great and spot on (actually both guys we spoke to).
The elevators are small, 2 people fit but without any luggage and that is it.
The hallway on the floor we stayed was a bit dreary looking. It really needs a make-over (actually the whole hotel does). I have to admit, I was a bit scared of what to expect in the room but once inside I was pleasantly surprised.
The room was clean and well lit. The AC worked fabulously. As a matter of fact we had to turn it off in the middle of the night because it cooled the room very well.
The bathroom is not the largest but it wasn't bad. The shower had a regular size bathtub, hot water and good pressure. The fixtures are a bit old, but again this is a budget hotel. The only issue was the toilet which was extremely close to the sink - i can see this being a problem for a very large sized person.
We have to say that the beds and pillows were really comfortable. We have stayed in higher quality hotels and have had issues sleeping because of the bed and pillows.
The room had a well stocked mini fridge and the bonus was the cable TV with channels in Portuguese, English, Spanish and French.
As mentioned the hotel was clean which is a big issue for us. I think what some people may think that if a hotel is worn out and or old it is dirty - well I think this is the case for most of the other reviews. In our room the sheets, towels, bathroom, furniture and floors were all clean and fresh.
As for the location, we thought it was fantastic for us. It is in a very high end area. We found parking out in front without any issue as we brought our car in from Spain, the rest of the time we were walked or took the metro. It took us about 10 minutes to get to the metro and to El Corte Ingles as well as to the main plazas.
I have to go back in September for a meeting and have already booked my room. This time I'll be going solo. As a single female traveler, I know I'll be safe and secure and able to get a goods nights rest at a great price.
