“Not bad”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2009

If you are looking for a budget hotel, where you can get a good nights rest, in a nice area not far from the major attractions and metro, that is clean this is the place for you. If you are looking for new furniture, new fixtures, anything fancy and high tech amenities and where you have the main attractions at your doorstep, this is not the place for you.

We stayed for 2 nights during July for 48 euros a night with breakfast included and en suite bathrooms. This is a budget hotel so we knew more or less what to expect - no frills.

Upon arrival the guy at the front desk was really great and helpful. And later on when we asked for some recommendations he was great and spot on (actually both guys we spoke to).

The elevators are small, 2 people fit but without any luggage and that is it.

The hallway on the floor we stayed was a bit dreary looking. It really needs a make-over (actually the whole hotel does). I have to admit, I was a bit scared of what to expect in the room but once inside I was pleasantly surprised.

The room was clean and well lit. The AC worked fabulously. As a matter of fact we had to turn it off in the middle of the night because it cooled the room very well.

The bathroom is not the largest but it wasn't bad. The shower had a regular size bathtub, hot water and good pressure. The fixtures are a bit old, but again this is a budget hotel. The only issue was the toilet which was extremely close to the sink - i can see this being a problem for a very large sized person.

We have to say that the beds and pillows were really comfortable. We have stayed in higher quality hotels and have had issues sleeping because of the bed and pillows.

The room had a well stocked mini fridge and the bonus was the cable TV with channels in Portuguese, English, Spanish and French.

As mentioned the hotel was clean which is a big issue for us. I think what some people may think that if a hotel is worn out and or old it is dirty - well I think this is the case for most of the other reviews. In our room the sheets, towels, bathroom, furniture and floors were all clean and fresh.

As for the location, we thought it was fantastic for us. It is in a very high end area. We found parking out in front without any issue as we brought our car in from Spain, the rest of the time we were walked or took the metro. It took us about 10 minutes to get to the metro and to El Corte Ingles as well as to the main plazas.

I have to go back in September for a meeting and have already booked my room. This time I'll be going solo. As a single female traveler, I know I'll be safe and secure and able to get a goods nights rest at a great price.

Tiny bathroom and bedroom. Poor breakfast, Bar closed most of the time we were there. Located too far from the main attractions. Overpriced and overated.

“You Get What You Pay For”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2007

I would recommend this hotel to those looking for an economical base to tour Lisbon. The rooms are tiny but the location is ideal. I literally could barely fit into the washroom and I am a lean guy. If you have the money, I would suggest staying somewhere else.

“Needs to be cleaned”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2007

Hotel is in a convenient location, but is dirty and in bad need of some updating. Hallways look as though they haven't been vacuumed in decades. Everything in our room and elsewhere was covered in dust. Bed was saggy, curtains were filthy, carpet was sticky, bath was old, A/C didn't work. There are dozens of hotels in this area, many that are reasonable, so no need to settle here -- this isn't worth the price.

“Flamingo Fling”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2005

A friend and I stayed at the BW Flamingo in Room 202 for three days. The A/C didn't work and with the window open there was some traffic noise. After touring the country we stayed in room 203 before returning home. The A/C worked fine but the faucet leaked. The room rate was 65 euros with twin beds.

By using Braamcamp rather than Rua Castilho we avoided the steep hill climb. We had wheeled luggage.

The hotel is near a Metro stop, a stop of the hop-on/hop-off bus and is about a 15 minute walk to the Airport 91 bus stop (3 euros). We were told we could take Bus 48 which was closer to the hotel but were concerned luggage aboard might be a problem.

The desk clerks spoke English well enough. We ordered a cab through the clerk for 6am to make our departing flight and it was there promptly (17 euros plus tip).
