We booked 2 rooms at Novotel José Malhoa for 2 nights for the 27th and 28th December for me, my husband ,our daughter and 3 granddaughters. Reason for going to Lisbon? We had tickets to go see Cirque du Soleil, Alegria Lisboa show.Because we booked early, we got a fantastic deal (price lower than Ibis)
We drove from the Algarve and had no problems finding the hotel since we had GPS.
Check in was quite fast, as usual. Friendly staff with good English. Very polite and helpful. We had 2 rooms on the second floor and the lifts were fast and efficient.
The rooms and bathrooms were comfortable and very clean. Hairdryers were available in both bathrooms. There was mini bar in the room with enough space for some of our own fruit. Free coffee/tea on top of the mini-bar was also available. Both rooms had flat screen TVs with several cable TV channels to choose from.
Parking—there are three options. 1) paid parking opposite the hotel (free after 7pm); 2) free parking behind the hotel; or 3) Novotel paid parking. We opted for the free parking and had no problems whatsoever.
Breakfast: we usually avoid having breakfast at Novotel— too much food for too much money. Since we basically enjoy having a continental breakfast we usually go to cafés neaby for our breakfast. Plenty of options across the street.
Free wi-fi is available in reception and also in our rooms. The access code was in our rooms and had no problems using it. Very convenient to check e-mails, reservations, show times, tube and train options and times. There are two pcs downstairs in case ou haven't got one of your own.Printer also avaialble.
.We took the tube to the Pavilhão Atlantico to see the Alegria show. Pretty simple. No problems. The nearest station is just a few blocks away from the hotel.
We also did the day trip to Sintra to visit the Pena Castle (Royal palace)—a nice train ride.
Both rail (Sete Rios) & metro (Jardim Zoologico) are 10 min walk from the hotel. We took the Sete rios line and we had to switch trains at Cagem (same platform) for Sintra trip. A bit complicated if you are not acquainted with using the ticket machines. Had to ask for help. People are very helpful.
Felt very safe in Lisbon despite constant warning about pickpockets in the city. We kept our eyes open but have no incidents to report.
A great two days. But was ready to go home to calm Chaves at the end of those two days.
Very convenient hotel. In fact we always use it when we go to Lisbon.
