If Sweet Home hadn't been on the 4th-- or was it 5th--??-floor... if there had been one more shared-bathroom, and if I didn't thinking giving 5 stars might make even the most conscientious proprietors rest on their laurels, then Sweet Home would have gotten 5 stars.
The brother and sister team of Anna and Karim were the perfect combination of helpful and non-intrusive. You really felt like they had simply turned over the keys to a small group of responsible, considerate guests and then went about their lives, trusting us to behave. And we tried to. And, like perfect hosts, they did our laundry, filled the cupboards with cereal, bread, and jam (complimentary) and kept the place incredibly spotless. I saw Anna cleaning places that it had never occurred me to clean in my own home!
While the rooms were comfortable, they were sparsely furnished which I thought was a plus: easy to clean and more room for one's luggage. Each room had patio doors that lead to a balcony overlooking a lovely street in an excellent neighborhood very close to Rossio, the epicenter of Lisbon. The outdoor cafes downstairs were closed by 10 PM, so noise wasn't a problem. This may well change in the summer, but then guests will also be out later.
The kitchen and one shared bath (which I believe served four rooms which at times had up to 10 guests...way too many) were very pleasant...nicely painted, and furnished with ultra modern fixtures and appliances.
They are currently in the process of adding more bathrooms. of course that will increase the price, lets hope it's not by too much.
This place is a budget traveler's Nirvana..
