The facade of the building in which the Roma is located, next to the entrance to a parking garage, is not promising. Unfortunately the guest rooms are not a lot better - extremely basic furnishings. The rooms and other areas are claustrophobic. Getting in and out of our shower was downright dangerous.The ladies at the desk tried to be helpful but dispensed a lot of misinformation. On the other hand, for a large city the Roma is inexpensive,the breakfasts were good, and the location was much better (for us) than the fancier hotel areas further north.
I had stayed here 15 years ago,and was simply not asI remembered it.

Hard to believe some of the other reviews. I spent several days at this hotel last April. Location could not be better. I was very happy with the breakfasts. My rooms were not "beautiful", but they certainly provided all that I needed. Bathroom were clean. YES...you need to be prepared to carry your luggage up several flights of stairs according to where your room is located. When I return in a few days, I will carry lighter luggage. Price is right. Hotel is within walking distance of Old Town Sights plus Metro and Trans to transport you around the city.

there are so many better places for the price. location is good but for 20 euros more a night we found at an amazing B&B for the rest of the stay. staff were actively hostile. i don't mind dumpy places but it's not good value considering what you can get in lisbon if you look around. security was awful, they gave us keys to someone else's room several times and never checked names against room numbers, so take the option to use the safe. usually i don't bother with bad reviews but they deserve it. it's fine if you can't find anywhere else but that's about it.

We 'did' Lisbon following a surfing holiday in Peniche, and found this hotel to be absolutely perfect. The location is terrific with the heart of both the shopping/ cultural part of the city and the old town being within easy walking distance, yet the hotel is in a peaceful location in a quiet side street just off the main strip. The breakfasts were perfectly adequate, as were the furnishings and hotel decor. Most impressive though was the cleanliness, with both the bathroom and the bedroom spotless and the linen crisp and clean. Finally, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Don't waste money on expensive hotels (which are miles outside the city centre) - this place is great.
