“Modern hotel in a great location - highly recommended”

We stayed here over Christmas and New Year for 10 days. We had no idea where to stay in Lisbon and came across the hotel by searching the internet. The hotel is around 15 minutes from the airport which costs approx. €20 in a taxi.

Das Letras is tucked away on a quiet street, yet it is only a 5-10 minute walk to the nearest metro. Tickets are just over €1 for a single fare or you can buy a 24 hour ticket for less than €5. The tickets run for an entire 24 hours too, so if you buy the ticket at 11am it runs until 11am the next morning, unlike UK tickets that finish at midnight!

Lisbon is quite hilly and if you struggle walking I would recommend turning right out of the hotel rather than left on your way to the main street or the station - it's not such a big hill this way! It's an easy walk down to the main square and water front if you fancy walking.

On entering the hotel you are greeted with a chic, boutique style lobby. It is very clean and inviting. The staff are very friendly and helpful, wanting to show the best of their city and recommend places to go.

Our room was large by European standards and very clean. The bed was huge and the bathroom (behind frosted glass doors) had a bath and walk-in shower with a rain shower. All very modern and clean. The room is equipped with a flat screen TV, tea/coffee facilities and a fridge. The only thing missing would be more TV channels or pay per view movies.

Each room has a literary 'theme' with quotes displayed over the bed. Ours was Shakespeare, which was also translated from English to other languages in a display on the table.

We were also lucky enough to have a small balcony, although the friends we were staying with did not.

Breakfast was not included in the price and was a cold buffet. For €18 you can get a lot more in a local cafe however it was well done and convenient.

There are plenty of excellent bars and restaurants all over the city too. If you visit Belem for the day, make sure you try the famous custard tarts - well worth queuing for!

Altogether, this was a fantastic place to visit with plenty to see and do and the hotel is definitely worth remembering for next time we visit. The location and price could not be beaten.

“Not up to 5 stars + tricky receptionist working on comision job”

I stayed there for only a couple of nights, but the hotel is far from a 5 star hotel. The guy at the reception made us a reservation to a restaurant that he was getting commission for sending guest instead of the one I asked (you don't do this in a 5 star hotel.). The shower was leaking from all the possible places and we could only use the bathtub, which was not fitted with a glass or curtain, therefore the whole bathroom was full of water after a shower. The view wasn't spectacular either, we had a view to another wall in front of us. The breakfast was definitely not of 5*, maybe only the one guy working at breakfast and moving very quick around and trying to make everybody happy worth the 5*.

“Wonderful hotel, unbelieveable price!”

This is really an extraordinary boutique hotel that was first rate in every way. The recommendation for Largo Restaurante by the front desk staff could not have been more ideal for my family. The rooms were very, very comfortable, with a modern yet warm decor. Made for a relaxing stay.

“Chic hotel in great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

We stayed here ends of January with two small children (5 yr. old and baby). The room was nice. We had a king size bed and they brought a small bed or my 5 yr. old. Breakfast was not included in our room and at 18 euro per adult we decided to have cafe and a pastry for 6 euro or so at a near by cafe shop. Walking distance to Avenida de Liberdad and Bairro Alto. Rossio square is at the end of Avenida de Liberdad and with 2 small kids, a bit farther for us. For those with kids, I would suggest taking a taxi to Alfama and walking around. Do not take a stroller. Very hilly cobble streets. Take a baby carrier.

Try some delicious french pastries at Poison d'Amour in Bairro Alto!

“What a find!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We had a two week stay in Lisbon at a friend's apartment in the Graça neighborhood above Santa Apolonia Station but it wasn't available our first night in town so I booked a room at Das Letras. When it comes to hotel accomodations, I generally prefer 5 star treatment [not necessarily at "5 star prices"] and ultra-modern design. This hotel provided all that I could want. Coming in from New York, I arrived early and, of course, our room wasn't ready yet. So I was provided with a nice breakfast & wine at a restaurant down the street [at no cost to me] and as a sign of their appreciation for my patience our room was upgraded to a suite on the 7th floor with a full terrace the length of both rooms and a bathroom I can only dream about having in my own home. A great "find" and a wonderful hotel. Too bad we only had a one-night stay!!
