My husband and I were lucky to get a last minute deal from Sunway Holidays for the last week in June . We stayed in Hotel Clube do Lago in Estoril. We were very happy with what we got for our bargain price.
Though located in a quiet street uphill from the nearest beach it was within easy walking distance of the lively resort of Cascais which has many good restaurants and quality stores not just the usual tourist shops but these as well so everybody catered for.
Beautiful beach in Estoril but many more in the couple of Kms between Estoril and Cascais. Great boardwalk stretching from Estoril to Cascais harbour and beyond. We walked home every night from Cascais, tho it took us more than a half hour, the hardest part at the end from Monte Estoril up a few steep streets to our hotel! We enjoyed the walk along the boardwalk by the sea and felt perfectly safe at all times. Taxis, however, were very reasonable so are an easier option if preferred.
Bikes are available free from near the tourist office at Cascais on production of passport and a cycle path can be used to the west of the town for several Kms with beautiful scenic views along the way.
We had a studio apartment in Clube do Lago which was quite large with a nice balcony.
Breakfast was provided, which was ok except for the orange juice but you can avoid that!
The rooms were cleaned every day and the towels changed. The only complaint I had was the quality of the beds - in a word - dreadful! It is time for a change to decent matresses !
The hotel has a very nice pool and a leisure centre with gym and indoor heated pool etc which looked very well maintained but which we didnt use as temps were close to 30 degrees for the week we were there.
Staff at reception were very helpful but especially Paula who answered endless questions about buses, trains, etc etc. She was at all times professional, pleasant and endlessly patient. Thank you Paula!
Finally, it was easy to travel to Lisbon as trains leave every 20 mins from Monte Estoril station about 10 mins from hotel.
Local buses from Estoril or Cascais can be used to visit the lovely town of Sintra.
I forgot to mention the Casino at Estoril which is a good place to visit for a drink later in the evening - good atmosphere with a jazz band playing , even if the gambling doesn't appeal to you!
All in all we enjoyed a good week in Estoril / Cascais and were made very welcome in Clube do Lago.
