“lovely and relaxing”

I wanted a romantic and relaxed beach holiday with my partner and I really wanted a nice hotel as a bad hotel can really spoil a holiday. I am SO glad we picked hotel amazonia. We took a risk and just picked it because of how it looked on its website and its location and our risk paid off. The staff were lovely and very helpful. One waitress was so chatty and friendly and even gave my partner and I a free dessert at the hotel resturant. Our room was stylish, comfy and very clean. The decor could be accused of being a little cold but it is done to a high standard and feels more modern than sparse. The shower was amazing. The best shower Ive ever used. We had a little kitchenette which was very handy as eating out every night can get a little tiresome. There is a "jumbo" supermarket a five euro taxi ride away which was great for getting snacks. The hotel resturant is quiet and the food is reasonable but to be honest there are much better resturants five min walk away.
I really enjoyed my stayed here. If you are looking for a relaxed luxuary get away then this hotel is perfect. Five mins away from the beach, five mins from a train link to lisbon and there is a lovely 15 min walk to cascais along the sea. If you have young children or looking for a party hotel this probably isnt for you. I love it !

Faintly disappointing after previous review. Breakfast was only 8 euros but rather poor standard and late, didn't start until 8 but even later than that. Room very clean but rather bare and lacked any warmth

We satyed for 14 days at this hotel, actually extending our stay twice. The first week we were 21 family members for our wedding, all staying at the Amazonia. Rooms were big, airy and clean. Most rooms had balconies, and all had efficient and quiet air conditioners. Service was impeccable, and the garden with pool was a joy. Extremely relaxing stay, with good breakfasts served until 10.30 every day by smiling and caring staff. All the hotel is very clean and really deserves the "boutique" monicker. It is quiet, but just a few minutes from very good restaurants and the beautiful beach. Perfect for a family holiday with trips to Sintra and Lisbon, besides the more touristy, but ok, Cascais.

“Lovely hotel, very clean and modern, friendly helpful staff.”

Got back over the weekend having spent 5 nights. Gorgeous hotel, incredibly clean, modern and a boutique like feel about the place. So many nice touches about the place, from the décor of the room and bathroom to the reception area and water features outside with fish and turtles in.

Room, which was very spacious, had inbuilt hairdryer and fridge with minibar and air-con was very welcome. Big mirror, nice balcony, brand new widescreen plasma TV showing a few English Channels (BBC Choice, BBC News 24, Eurosport and several music channels) and a very comfy bed. Rooms were beautifully cleaned/made every day. Plenty of wardrobe/hanging/storage space including a safe in the room.

Turns out the place had just gone through a big refurbishment and was closed for 8 months. I heard that 16 of the rooms were in operation, but tinkering work was being done on the remaining rooms – about another 10 I believe.

Pool area and pool, albeit cold, was very nice with good decking and comfy new sun loungers. Extremely helpful and friendly staff, including the General Manager who always acknowledged us and asked if everything was OK.

Didn’t have/need a car, but there is a car park for a few cars and the hotel is secure and gated. Hotel is situated up a hill about 4-5 mins walk from the beach. Although the hotel has lifts and ramps to cater for the disabled and elderly, it would be a bit of hard work to negotiate the rather steep hill leading to the hotel. Didn't really explore Estoril as didn't seem that much going on, but Cascais - lovely place and would guess more lively at the weekend or peak season - is only a (30 min) walk along the beach front or 5 mins (4 euros) in a cab. Casino (Europe's largest apparently) is a 4 min walk away and a small food supermarket about 10 mins walk from the hotel. Nearest big supermarket (called Jumbo) selling pretty much everything is in Cascais, where there's also a cinema and plenty of bars and restaurants. A regular train service runs to Lisbon, which is only 30 mins and costs just under 4 euros for a return, running til 1.30am in the morning. Was planning to play golf at the local Estoril course, but would've been 65 euros to play then an extra 35 euros for club hire, so we left it.

Going back to the hotel, 3 very minor issues:
- Reception area not clear to find – probably hadn’t got round to putting a sign up
- Breakfast we didn’t feel was great value at 8 euros each
- No internet available for public use but were told they’d be getting it.

Apart from that, absolutely no complaints.

“Didn't get what we paid for”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2009

Firstly I would like to say how helpful the staff were. It is no longer grubby, they were in the process of a total refurbishment to the point that they were still laying lawns, but at the loss of the garden as a new wing had been built. We stayed in that new wing, the first people in fact, but we overlooked the car park and although they had black out curtains they didn't have any nets in front of these so we were in darkness most of the time as we could be seen - the main building had both nets and black out. It also needed sound proofing, thank goodness the lift wasn't working as that was right on our bedroom wall and we would have got less sleep. They say bar/lounge, no bar I am afraid you have to ask someone if you see them, no pool side bar as that wasn't completed. No internet for us to check in on our return flight home had to use another hotel. Pool too cold for anything, no tables around pool so drinks and food were on ground level and being knocked over. A soft chair found it's way into our room after two days. On the first day we thought we would see what we got for our 8 euro breakfast, which was served between 8 and 10.30. We got down there at 10, ok it's a buffet but there was no one aorund to order tea and coffee, we looked at the tired food and decided to go out for breakfast which we did everyday for about 5-6 euros for the two of us instead of 16 euros, so they did us a favour. Cascais was more of a tourist spot and wished we had gone there. We headed for the casino most nights as the drinks were not badly priced and we could at least sit and listen to the live music. Oh the Casino buffet is worth a try, eat as much as you like with a drink for 14 euros each. It might be better once it has completely finished the refurbishment but would never have gone there had we known it was taking place. Oh forgot to say, the restaurant is only for breakfast they do not serve food there. We found out on the last day that we could axctually order a sandwich, no mention of that anywhere. I didn't appreciate booking a double bed and then given two twins only 2'6" wide on very hard mattress.
