“Lived up to expectations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2011

Booked this hotel because of the good TA reports and was not disappointed. The hotel is spotlessly clean and all the staff are very polite and helpful. We had the pool to ourselves as there were very few guests so this was a bonus. Our only (small) criticisms - .........unable to find a plug for the hairdryer close to a mirror.....and (my pet hate) - nasty blankets!!!........... would definiely stay here again .
Word of warning re Jackpot Restaurant opposite the Casino. We had a lovely dinner here one night but the nibbles and dips which we. didn't order (or eat most of) cost us 20 Euros.!!
Ate in Cascais the other nights where you are spoilt for choice.

“Friendly and cooperative service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2011

Just returned from a 5 day stay with a group of 12 golfers, staff could not have been more helpful and cooperative. Every request was greeted with a smile and immediate action. Food good.

“consistent good value”

we have visited Estoril for at least 10 out of the last 12 years, staying
at Pica Pau with Susan and Alberto. This trip our flight was 2 hours late
into Lisbon but Senor Rodrigues was there to meet us as always.
Susan was in reception to greet and check us in (normally her time
off)
this is typical of the care taken to make her guests feel at home.
Most staff have worked there for years and remember us!
I have read comments about breakfast 'orange juice... but it is a
mixed fruit drink! breakfast, included is more than adequate.
Some correspondents don't appreciate this is a 'pension' not a 5
star hotel... it ticks all the boxes and is very good value.
What better recommendation can one offer but to return year on
as some say it is a short walk to the station for trains to Lisbon,
Cascais is about 20 mins walk along the promenade. there is a fairly new
minibus service to Cascais Shopping centre, 1euro each way!
this is the first review I have posted and I am glad to write about
Pica Pau We shall return later this year...

We have just spent 1 week at the Pica Pau.During our stay we visited Lisbon ,return EUR 4 each on clean frequent train.(approx 30 minutes journey).Walked to Cascais
almost daily (30 minute stroll). We paid EUR 65 per night B&B for 2.Excellent value
for money.Dinnners at Pica Pau were in a plesant cosy restaurant which cost EUR 30-35 for 2 (no wine). We had a twin room with bathroom.Room was clean and towels
changed daily.Staff were very pleasant and could have not done more .Breakfast was
the same each day .Cold meats,cereal.melon,rolls.toast yogurts, bacon ,scrambled egg
strong coffee ,tea and juices .OJ definitely not ok.The owner/manager is a very helpful
English lady.We visited the Casino (10 minutes walk).Very interesting modern set up
.We only tried the slot machines 5EUR minimum .Pool and its vicinity is very pleasant
although it could do with a little tidying up.(weeds growing through poolside paving and
brollies rather worn.We travelled LHR/LIS/LHR on TAP and only paid UKL 224 for 2 .
Overall a very good trip for a low cost.Would recommend both Pica Pau and TAP.

“cosy and welcoming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2010

Had a week there recently, and yes it's not posh, things don't match and the OJ is dreadful. But it is charming, the people are all friendly and helpful, and it is very good value for money. The pool and the surrounding area are large for the size of the place. We were forced to eat in the restaurant more than we had planned as my husband had a temporary mobility problem - and we found the food very good and amazing value. Chicken piri piri for 8 Euros and house wine at 5 Euros a bottle, no wonder the locals go there.
