It is not often you can say “That hotel has it all”.
Service was faultless. From the moment we arrived for a week to celebrate my wife’s birthday we were treated to a truly memorable experience.
Amazingly ALL the staff addressed us by name whenever we met within or without the hotel, and were helpful and fun at the same time. They booked things for us and sorted out any queries we had with great aplomb.
Both my wife and I agreed we had never stayed in a better hotel. The setting is majestic – two of the buildings were the home of King Umberto of Italy in exile. The public rooms are beautiful, the bedrooms excellent with large bathrooms and most comfortable and huge beds. Wireless internet is perfect and overall the property is wonderfully kept.
There are of course some problems. The food is so good that one does not feel like making the effort to go to one of the many nearby restaurants. Further, it is extremely well priced with a magnificent dinner for two immaculately served and including wine, costing only a little more than €100.
Though we did not swim – it was a little cool but sunny and calm - had we done so it would have been in a beautiful pool. There is also a spa with various treatments at very reasonable prices that my wife reported was excellent.
One word of warning book on this website: www.realhotelsgroup.com. There is another site:www.granderealvillaitaliahotel.com/index.html This is an agency which books for you but may well not show you up to date offers and suchlike.
Just a short walk from Cascais, a pretty train ride from Lisbon, this hotel is ideally placed. Of course you need do nothing. Simply sit back and be spoiled by an ever-attentive staff and you can't go wrong. We had only one quibble. The coffee at breakfast was not hot enough!
Whatever you do just go and have the experience.
