“It used to be very good (despite the asthonishing location!!!)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

The hotel is located in Cascais, just arround the corner from the marina. It´s inserted in a complex composed by a lovely (restaured) lighthouse, Old Palace, 18th century building now used as a disco (trendy place!) and the hotel.
Outside a large parking space and a small garden surround the old building next to the new hotel wing. Inside the general ambience is very trendy and sophisticated and as you walk through the comum areas you will find a display of design furniture, paintings and sofas, envolved in a very warm and sexy atmosphere... The general staff are very helpfull and friendly, with several sugestions about drinks, places to visit, shows... The bar is a very special place where you can relax and have a drink in a very unique atmosphere. The swimming pool is just over the sea, with plenty of sunbeds and marvellous corners were you can rest!
The rooms are something else... as you should expect they would follow the same style as the general hotel, pure deceiving... The standart room are dull, simple (to simple) and very used. The general filling is that it hasn´t been "touched" since the openning... The sleep quality is poor, because the pillows are too small or too bulky. despite the bathroom ameniteis are very good (from Rituals, with bathrobe, sleepers...) the general style is outdated. The breakfirst is served in the dinning room, with a marvellous view over the pool, sea and lighthouse, but the lack of variety and diversity of foods and choices are disappointing for a 5 star hotel... The absence of Spa, Health club, gym or indoor pool is also incomprehensible...

I did struggle to believe that this was a 5 start hotel. The level of service was excellent, and we were immediately made to feel welcome. But the 'standard' room we had was of a very poor quality of finish. We felt that the room had not been refurbished in quite some time and found stains and general poor quality of finish in the room. The general feeling was friendly and welcoming staff, excellent breakfast and wonderful views of the sea, but no where near 5 stars in terms of rooms.

Room Tip: The designer rooms infinitely better, standard rooms had a very poor quality of finish and we had a...

“Location location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

This hotel is superbly located at the Boca de inferno, where the Atlantic ocean endlessly crashes onto the rocks of Cascais. The bar is the ideal place from which to observe the drama. Sample the excellent sushi and a local wine. Sheer bliss! We visited in December when the place was decorated for Christmas in an elegant, contemporary style - a welcome break from the rather stodgy decorations elsewhere in Sintra/cascais. Staff are obliging and friendly despite some rough edges. Highly recommended.

“Go on, spoil yourself!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

Spent 24 hours on our wedding anniversary at this recently renovated boutique hotel.
Rooms individually designed by a selection of well-known Portuguese designers. We chose the Ana Salazar room - sheer luxury and the most breathtaking view out to sea. From certain angles, it was as if we were on a ship in the ocean.
Breakfast was very good and service excellent.
The hotel is only a 5 minute walk away from the Cascais Marina. In the other direction, a superb seafront walk takes you to the Boca de Inferno (well worth a visit) and on to Guincho Beach. This route is excellent for walking, jogging or cycling.

Room Tip: must have a sea view

“Destination of Choice for visiting Lisbon and Portuguese Coast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

We travelled off-season by choice to discover this historical area. We were overwhelmed by the graciousness of the staff, their kind reception, the room, and, most surprisingly, the food. Everyone on staff spoke excellent English, and made sure our every need was covered. I had read other, and not favorable, reviews of this hotel, but I believe management has taken those comments to heart and quickly acted on them.
The sushi was among the best we have ever eaten and we've lived in New York, Boston and Miami and have travelled Asia, London and Paris where we have eaten in world-reknowned Japanese restaurants. The Farol sushi chef successfully combined ingredients I had not known before, and these were by far the best meals of our 10 day vacation. We did not have high expectations to start with for this trip, but seriously this restaurant 'rocked.'
The restaurant staff, headed by a man named Jorge, could not have been more efficient, remembering the second night of our stay our choices from the previous night, and asking if we wanted the same wine/bottled water, etc... We had room 214 (or 215?) the corner room overlooking the water. Exceptional. Waking up to seeing fishing boats leaving Lisbon port was a life memory for me. Though we did not use the pool (being December), it was clean and well tended to.
I was happily surprised to visit their Reception Room which, with a private terrace, can accomodate in excess of 150 people. Any couple considering getting married in Portugal should short-list this place. Beautiful.
