“Lovely complex”

Just returned from Vila Bicuda after a truly relaxing week - with sunshine thrown in! We took a taxi from the airport in Lisbon €55, as we arrived at night, but got the train & bus back at the end or our stay. We stayed in a 1 bed duplex over looking the pool & it was very quiet & peaceful, we sometimes had the pool to ourselves. The duplex was very spacious & kitchen very well equiped with everything you could possibly need. The cleaners came nearly every day - some days I told them not to bother as we didn't eat in the apartment. The little bakery sells lovely fresh rolls & cakes & seemed to be busy throughout the day. The small supermarket had the essentials & staff were very friendly. I must mention that all of the reception staff were also very friendly & helpful - some of the best we have met. The only drawback is that you have to get a taxi into town at night - we did walk it the first day - but it's a good 40 min walk - we got the bus back from town but if you don't hire a car and we didn't want to really (the drivers are a bit mad to be honest!) - a taxi will cost you between €5 & €7 depending on the time of day/night. If you want a relaxing break I would recommend it. The town of Cascais is lovely - small - but lovely with plenty of nice places to eat - prices vary, but there is a lovely Indian place we went to called Restaurante Chilly - lovely food & great value a meal for 2 with wine was less than €40. Beware paying higher prices with the fish & seafood - it is sold by weight & while lovely we paid about €40 for a "speciality" fish dish which I think was a bit cheeky! Needless to say we didn't bother going back there. Prices in "Irish" pubs are not to bad, almost the same at home for pints but wine & spirits are a bit cheaper. Lisbon airport it very big so give yourself plenty of time to get to your gate for departure and don't waste your money going into the restaurant near gate 43 - First Class Lounge - is the name of it - we wanted a snack & waited until we got to our gate - the WORST burger ever & paid €26 for 2 for that & a soft drink. It was cold & the "chips" turned out to be crisps. Not only that but it was disgusting - so grab a sandwich on the way up there - ok they charge €4.50 for one & €1.50 for a small bottle of water but it's better than the rubbish up there. We paid €800 for the weeks accom - a bit expensive but we were treating ourselves & enjoyed our stay very much.

“Fantastic!!!!!!!!!”

Myself and five friends travelled to the Cascais region of Lisbon on a golfing break staying in a 3 bedroom town house on the Vila Bicuda complex and I have to say it was one of the most relaxing holidays I have ever been on..
The complex itself is made up of 1,2 and 3 bedroom villas/town houses and within the complex there is a supermarket (reasonably priced) a restaurant (nice food, just not a lot of choice) a pateserie (amazing doughnuts!!!! and pastries) .
For us it was a great base as the 3 golf courses we played were within a 15min drive..
The town house had a great layout with two bedrooms downstairs and the 3rd upstairs , same with the bathrooms..
bigish kitchen and great lounge diner, outside there was a big terrace with a table and chairs with great views of the pool.. overall I would have no hesitation in going back to Vila Bicuda.. infact we have another golf break in the planning to go back in 2012..

Oh and before I go it was cleaned every day.... Spotless!!!!

“We enjoyed it but won't recommend it”

We enjoyed our holiday with our 1,5 year old. The price & quality proportion is not good.
Advantage: friendly staff, play area, quiet, bakery / café / supermarket on site, pool within reach of babyphone, transfer arranged by reception. Disadvantage: bed is horrible, pool is not heated (23 Celcius), no security for children in villa (electricity / stairs) . You have to pay for wifi and safe. The kitchen is not well equiped (cloth, etc.). Bring your own wood & candles..not provided. Jumbo supermarket is nearby and look for Cascais Villa shopping (5 km up north), beach Quincho is nice and in the centre of Cascais.

“Spartan but spacious resort with good pools”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2010

very nice laid-out resort with 2 nice swimming pools, but not much else to occupy 4 teenagers, and with lots of little children around they got frustrated at times. We had a T3 villa, which was very roomy, but minimalist. Lots of annoying ommisions to the kit, like 2 small saucepans and a dish for self-catering 6 hungry people! No milk in the tiny 'welcome'pack, so get some before you arrive. We had to buy everything like cleaning cloths and liquids, matches. Again, given the level (4*) this property aspires to, this was unnecessary and annoying. The upstairs verandah had no chairs to sit out on, so we had to drag chairs up from downstairs.
The maid service is daily, and excellent.
There is no washing machine, only a dishwasher. this is really incomprehensible, given the target market (families with young kids) of the resort, and that leaves folk 2 options: either pay expensively to use the dry-cleaners/ laundry onsite; or hand wash and hang stuff indoors ( you are not allowed to hang anything outdoors, so everything takes a while to dry... be warned. There is a tiny rack-thing to hang clothes on, but try washing out swimgear for hefty teenage boys and hanging it on that!!!!)
The supermarket is well-stocked but really expensive. If you have a car, there is the Jumbo store and Continente in Caiscais.
The noise levels are high at this resort, because of having so many little children there, so it would be disappointing for a couple seeking a quiet relaxing break.
All in all, this was a pleasant resort, great for touring the area, but a car is a must.
Another plus, is you get the chance to mix with other nationals, as ther are very few Brits: mostly Portuguese and Scandinavians.
Our enthusiasm for Vila Bicuda is rather muted by the irritating lack of attention to detail, which would have made the resort so much more appealing, in our eyes.

If you just want a beach/sun/pool type holiday in Portugal, and don't mind where you go, then there are similar resorts of a much better standard and quality, for the same cost, elsewhere. We stayed at Quinta da Encosta Velha , one of the Vigea resorts last year, and it was in everyway superb, better equipped, more character, than Vila Bicuda.
I would recommend Vila Bicuda to a friend, but only if they really wanted to visit this area of Portugal, otherwise there are better places to stay.

“Excellent accommodation with good facilities on site”

We had'nt hired a car. my daughter took public transport from the Airport which is not to be reccomended. My wife and I took a Taxi. The driver agreed that the fare would be Euros 35 but on arrival it had gone up to Euros 49. The rooms are large and well furnished with aTV with a few English channels. The kitchen is top class with a dishwasher (tablet provided daily) Fridge/freezer 6ft +. The terrace was facing the swimming pool but separated from adjacent villas by hedges which afforded visual privacy. Good lighting allows the reading of books outside at night . Very little noise in the evening and none after 10.30. Great little mini-market and Italian restaurant on site.
